I know it is not always easy to just up and travel - but aim to really get away from an English speaking country and challenge yourself. Even steer away from developed countries that will have all the comforts of home. It is scarey but rewarding..

And cheaper too. I'd recommend Indonesia.

obsession

n 1: an irrational motive for performing trivial or repetitive actions against your will [syn: compulsion] 2: an unhealthy preoccupation with something or someone"

That's the dictionary definition. I'll stand by my "no obsession is a good thing" statement, it's not just my opinion.

Pussy solves all lives problems? So why are their so many unhappy people? Some of the most unhappy people I know are some of the most promiscuous - that seems to go hand and hand. Sex is a good thing, but like any other substance it can be abused.

i highly agree. i only want to be with one person, that who i marry. some may think that is stupid, others may not. who cares? it's my life, not anyone elses. but you make a good point, andocrates!

i've checked several dictionaries, all of which seem to say the same thing along the lines of mirriam webster, the most popular and highest rated dictionary (american english, specifically):

A persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling; broadly : compelling motivation (an obsession with profits)

hmm.. while it does say disturbing preoccupation--where one could and rightfully should say it is unhealthy--it also mentions "compelling motivation", an obsession that profits you in some way. that is an obsession that is good, if it profits and teaches you things, if you are motivated and determined by something, if you are driven to a point of success. i have always had an obsession with music, and the only thing it has created in me was that i know how to play several instruments well due to the "obsession" that carried out a drive and motive which caused me to practice all the time, therefore enabaling me to get better and better at something i love to do.

ummm.. soo... apparently it is just a word, and words can mean different things to different people, and different things to different dictionaries. your dictionary says one thing, mine says another... but my mind speaks to me a completely different thing. perhaps "obession" was the wrong word to begin with. but then again, i never said i was obsessed with japan or penpals or whatever you thought to begin with.

so oh well, it's just a word. but hey, watch the movie "pecker". the little girl in the movie teaches you to appreciate little quirky obsessions, in which the main character, pecker, also comes to appreciate. of course, it's all to be taken lightly...
