Does Japan have any examples of educated conservatives? Mishima, Fujiwara, and Ishihara all strike me as all heart, no brains. :?:

Well, why don't those paragons of Japanese feeling love me up something useful? Zen might have a point on the pointlessness of searching for answers to everything, but logic is a tool that should not be discarded so lightly.

These giants of modern Japanese thought (I mean, feeling) should look to the cold logic of Meiji Japan, where it was quickly surmised that surviving the fate handed to the Chinese required an immediate revamping of military equipment, tactics and training. Men like these three would have supported the existing feudal system all the way to enslavement.

Maybe it is just me but I always get a chuckle when Japanese nationalists are referred to as 'conservative'. Most of these guys are into state run monopolies, massive public spending and non competition.

That Neomarxisme blog is a great read on Japanese pop/media culture. Thanks for the link Mulboyne!
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

The pieces I've read have usually been interesting. "Marxy" gets some heavy fire from those who think he is too critical of Japan. For instance, Momus often sets himself up in opposition via his own blog and in comments on Neomarxisme.

EXCLUSIVE: Yoko Ono on John Lennon and the FBI
ABC News, Sept. 5, 2006 --John Lennon's perceived "threat" to the U.S. government is the highlight of a new film that documents his transformation from pop idol to political activist and offers a fresh look at this former Beatle's career.
"The U.S. vs. John Lennon" will be released later this month. Yoko Ono cooperated with the filmmakers, opening her archives of rarely seen footage of the couple...Ono and Lennon did not want to leave the United States, and a legal battle ensued. In 1976, after the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal, Lennon won....
