Akatsuka, am I right in thinking that this is an assignment for University rather than something you are actually trying to put together for real?

That's what he said.

While a only a school project, while it is good to have some specific reading audience in mind, it is better to keep a specific advertising audience in mind first. Also I would propose that a fair bit of international J interest is fairly compartmentalized in various subcultures that don't necessarily intermix well...ie, the audience that would buy a magazine wants editorial coverage of 12-18K words on subject X (say, JDM cars or Gundams) and wouldn't necessarily be interested in a mag that spent 1K words on 15 different J related topics. Not to say that no one would be interested in a general J topic magazine, just that is would probably be smaller audience than focusing on 1 or 2 related J topics focused on the hardcore (which would also be a stronger audience for advertisers as well being an audience advertisers would want to reach).

yes, it is for uni, its not a real product that I'm going to produce.

GomiGirl>>
thanks for the link :) I might just have to buy a copy now :)

amdg >>
there must be something about the screen name 'akatsuka'... everyone assumes I'm male T_T
Thanks for your answers :)
Everyone, take amdg as a perfect example - even if you think my idea is fruitless, just fill out the questionnaire anyway so I can make up my own mind. Thanks :) (I also have to prove why I dont think it'll work...)

Kuang_Grade >>
I really appreciate your input! :)
Through this survey (which I've tried to give to as many Western people interested already in Japan one way or another) I was trying to establish whether or not there is actually a market for it. Even though its only a Uni project, I have to prove that if it were real it would sell.

I wasnt thinking on doing the magazine on a single topic - more of a general J topic magazine, as I thought a single J topic magazine would mean a fairly small audience. My audience doesnt have to be big - but if it is small it would mean the magazine is published less. I was thinking more of a general J topic magazine that is detailed and quirky enough to sell to a range of people. (theres bound to be something in it you want to read)

Anyway, I'm still at the thinking stage.
