Asahi: Girl dies after being trapped in pool filter
FUJIMINO, Saitama Prefecture--A 7-year-old girl died Monday after being trapped in a swimming pool filter for about six hours, police said. The girl was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead soon after. One of two lids that normally cover the filter had come unfastened, and it appears that the girl was sucked in. Rescue workers used heavy machinery to crack the pool wall in hopes of saving the child. The girl had gone to the pool with her mother, two brothers and a classmate. Lifeguards had previously warned pool users about the dislodged lid. Police are investigating possible negligence on the part of the pool operator.

I love the "We must have a sekinin" view of the J-people.

I mean the Lifeguards tell people that the pump intake area of the pool is dangerous, and lo and behold, it goes "Slurp!" and sucks that poor kid down like a 100 dollar blow job and now the police wanna put the owner (who was no where around) in jail! Could there be any consideration of responsibility of the kid's mother who was right there and "observed" the whole thing? All the media said about her was that she was "very distressed"! They oughtta stick her head in that inlet for about an hour or two, maybe that might change her view point about what is dangerous and what isn't!

Do you think the pool should've kept operating considering the consequences?

Now, obviously one must say no, but you are talking about a 12" intake pipe (30cm, according to the TV), that was set into an underwater alcove with half of its barred grate in place. The half immediately infront of the intake was in place. That is not exactly the thing that brings panic to anyone's thinking. The life guards apparently warned everyone and assumed it was safe enough. It wasn't so what you do? My point is that accidents do not occur in Japan, there must be a sekinin that causes them. Someone cannot fuck up by themselves and for their children. Someone must make them do it and It would appear that in this case it is now the owner of the pool! Since that is a licensed facility, that will be an easy case for professional negligence and a nice three to five years in the slammer! Case closed.

You agree with that? If you would have replaced your revolving doors earlier, you wouldn't have any accidents over there either!

Did you see the pictures of the hole? It definitely was large enough for a small child to fit..

Your skinny ass could fit in there. ;)

The pool looks delapitated and run-down.. And the mother's to blame!..

I'm very sorry! 30cm is actually 11.8 inches. So my skinny ass will not fit into it because of the extended rudder on my other side.

If you look at your posted picture you will see the removed covering grate in the pool to the right. That was over the intalke which is less than o*ne foot in diameter. I am trying to point out that must people would assume that the normal child will not be able to fit in a one foot hole that is covered in part by a grate leaving even less room between the intake an the grate for the child to get into
If you don't want to rely on my measurements (of the intake not my rudder). I refer to your posting here

Also, about the Mom being responsible and begrudgingly admit that you are probably right for once!

Asahi: 1,222 school pools have safety deficiencies
Swimming pools at 1,222 public and private elementary, junior and senior high schools lack sufficient safety devices to prevent youngsters from being sucked into water intake drains, a survey showed. In addition, 132 pools under the jurisdiction of municipal education boards have similar safety problems, stemming from their failure to properly secure covers or install metal grates over the mouth of the intake drains, according to the survey. The results of the survey, compiled by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, were released Wednesday...more...

Asahi: 2 city employees found guilty in death of girl at swimming pool
Two Fujimino city employees were found guilty of negligence Tuesday over the 2006 death of a 7-year-old girl who was sucked into an uncovered intake drain at a municipal swimming pool. Teruo Takami, 61, a former chief of the physical education section of the Fujimino city board of education, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for three years, for professional negligence resulting in death. Takashi Kawahara, 47, a former chief of the section's management team, was given a year in prison, suspended for three years, for the same charge. "The two neglected to carry out their duties by leaving almost all of the entire work to a private company," said Presiding Judge Yoshihisa Denda of the Saitama District Court. "They are totally irresponsible and deserve severe criticism"...more...

So everybody walks providing they're good little boys, as soon as they receive their "severe criticism". Everybody that is, except the little girl.....

Those komuin rank up there with the police man who gave a lighter to the gasoline soaked man.
