I rant, therefore I am....

Postby pb_foots » Sun Jun 08, 2003 9:22 pm

OK, so I'm not moving here, but I have visited pretty frequently over the last year, and I've got a few things that make me go Hmmm...

Why is it that Gaijin only seem to come in 2 flavors. The first is the obvious tourist. Loud, pasty, wearing shorts with black socks. I was in Yoyogi park Saturday, grooving on the Koi, the birds, and the flowers, and from 1/2 a mile away I hear Germans. Only 3, but they made more freakin noise than the 2 or 3 hundred locals put together. I tried my damndest to stay away, lest someone think we were somehow related. I also have seen Americans wrinkling their nose at the food more often than I can count. Stay home Opie and Annie, or eat at McDonalds. Do you think it makes the guy standing outside the restaraunt feel good when you go 'bleh, raw fish' at his food? I've seen millions of Japanese tourists at Fisherman's Wharf, and have yet to see one as rude as the gaijin here.

The other, and more annoying flavor of Gaijin, is the 'gone native, think I'm too freakin cool' kind. I see these social misfits hanging around Shibuya with J-babes, and God forbid I should ask a question, I get a look that would kill. Now, having grown up in San Francisco, I've seen plenty of these Beck looking a-holes for one lifetime, and they ought to get on their knees and thank the God that shat them out that they've found a place that thinks they're somehow 'hip'. Why the attitude? Sorry pal, take a shower, change your shirt, and pretend you're human, OK? I just want to know where the JR is, I'm not asking you for oral! Christ, leave the attitude at home, I f'ed guys like you in prison...

Now I know you're not all like that, and I apologize for the rant. It's just gotten to the point that I almost understand why nobody likes us in the world anymore.

First time I came to Japan, I loved the Japanese culture, but I couldn't imagine living here. Now that I've been back a few times, I still can't speak the language, but I've found the Japanese people to be humble, polite, and friendly. I always try to be as subtle as possible, keep my mouth shut and my ears open, and it seems to work. My business partners keep inviting me, so I can't be that annoying. I still can't see moving, but I could do 6 months or so eating Ramen and digging the history.

Any comments, or am I just full of Sh!t ?

Nice troll but this the the FG Forum, with an emphasis on the F. The gaijin you describe don't come close to ANY of those I met at the last FG party. Try your bait over in Japan Today or sYoung Doodz :hehe:

--- Taro, who wishes he was a "too freakin cool' kind" of FG or even 0.000001% as rude as a Japanese sex tourist

pb,
Chill man! They're not all out to get you, only the guys at http://www.gaijin-are-trash.cjb.net (I call on all present to actively ignore those people).
Also, quit the over appreciation of japanese folk, it makes you look insincere. There are no more or no less wankers among the japs, than there are among the yanks, brits, frogs or huns

I on the other hand find the Japanese among the rudest people on the planet - perhaps you are content with surface impressions. I still like the Japanese, but I have zero belief that they like me.

I often tell Japanese the intention of your heart, being real, is what Americans find important. Projecting a false front of peace and harmony is just fake, there is nothing good about that. Give me New Yorkers any day of the week. You always know where you stand with a new Yorker.

We do have people like the Japanese in America - we call them southerners.

I agree but I would have said...

We do have people like the Japanese in America - we call them Yankee's (northerners).

If you like New York that explains why you like me so much! Very cool fat Elvis avatar. Methinks our new friend would be less hostile if he looked more like Beck and could make friends with the cute J girls that he seems to be spending a lot of time looking at.

That's all!

That was SO WRONG!!

Postby GargoyleTS » Mon Jun 09, 2003 11:50 am

Okay, tourists are tourists no matter what country your in or they're from. They will either enjoy themselves quietly or be rather boisterous (and vocal) in their enthusiasm. I personally enjoy the loud type (barring bad days) as they provide amusement and a reminder of things I take for granted. But you gotta learn to ignore the ones you don't like, or your gonna go loony.

Good reply on the troll Taro, and I am NEVER clicking one of your links again!! (can't sleep, Elvis' toe will eat me....) :crazy3:

Full of shit!!

I don't fit into either of those groups and neither do most of the people that I know.

Generalising about FG in this way just makes you look stupid.. quit while you are behind.

As some one who has lived and/or worked in many popular tourist destinations, I have found MOST 'tourists' leave home without "common sence" packed giving a loud, obnoxious and ignorant impression. If those same people see another tourist doing the same actions a lot of them are horrified at the scene, but fail to see that they also are doing the same  . Not all of course but a large enough %age to make it seem so.
No proofs just my observations over many years of Local, Interstate and International tourists being tourists, my self included unfortunately  .

Well, you've assumed that there are only two flavors of gaijin. You've forgotten the stealth gaijin: non-Japanese Asians. They might look Japanese and blend in with the crowd seamlessly. At least until they open their mouths and then you know them for what they really are. A FG!

'displaying a rare ability of twisting her tongue'

photo shows sLin Ya-ting, a 23-year-old woman resident in Taiwan's central Taichung county, displaying a rare ability of twisting her tongue into a flower shape. Lin reasoned that she might have developed the rare physical technique while grimacing at her dog.
