Where do you find costumes in Tokyo?!

Postby watashinicksan » Sun Oct 26, 2008 5:46 pm

I've been looking for a Halloween costume high and low and have mostly come across costumes for chicks, so unless I want to be a maid (which I don't think I have the balls-er boobs for) I'd like some help.:D
I want to be a butler because two of my lady friends are gonna be maids.
A friend told me the Don Kihote in Shinjuku has costumes, the one in Takadanobaba had like 2 for guys.

Don't be dissing the male maid concept. I'm bringing some plastic knives with me, as the whole concept of the homicidal maid who hasn't taken her thorazine intrigues me, I've always wanted to be my own case study. Although, I'm having a bitch of a time finding some nice pumps in a size 28-29 to go with the fishnets I got a Donki, yesterday. Greji may have some stuff in his many closets, but they usually are covered in goat hair which feels a little gamey if you ask me.
Donki does have some guy size "girlie" outfits, and some guy stuff. Shinjuku Tokyuu Hands was actualy cheaper than Donki for the exact same outfit, which kinda tripped me out.
Using the same costume for company's bounenkai....I'm stuck doing a performance with two squares who won't let themselves sink deep enough into the abyss of twistedness to guarantee that we are fired or win the 20 man grand prize.

Just some advice...you'll nanpa more girls on Halloween as an ugly maid than as something more "guy-like".

Now you tell me. I thought all this time he was an ugly maid! Well, at least one not up to Mulybone's taste, but one well within my parameters....

Dude in back next to Rene Aubej....fuck if I know how to spell his name...anyways, that guy kinda reminds me of Peter Scolari, the guy who was supposed to get famous from the show Busom Buddies, instead of Tom Hanks. Peter's supposed to be the biggest angry, bitter SOB in Hollywood (at least that's how the rumor goes)...stuck on the last incarnation of some Bob Newhart show somewhere.

Tokyuu Hands has many interesting ideas and props that can be used for costumes. They have things like surgical and lab instruments, industrial tools and supplies, gardening tools, etc., which all can be used in a costume. You have to be creative to find what you need. Check out past pictures from the Metropolis Halloween Ball that occurs every year. There are always people who have incredible costume ideas.

EDIT: Halloween in Japan has to be the best time of year. The parties are always fun and the girls love to wear sexy outfits.

As usual on FG most of the replies are nonsensical with no direct answer to the damn question. I was also looking for a costume shop and couldn't find one in Tokyo. DonQ & Tokyo Hands only have cheap plastic stuff, not real costumes, so those suggestions aren't great. It's kind of weird that in a city that is the home of cosplay and all kinds of costumed freaks it is really, really hard to find a real costume shop.

They all use a new system to order custom, obscure, low demand seasonal crap. Maybe you've heard of it, they call it Teh Internets.

I usually went to Don Kijote, but last year I went to one of those work clothes/uniform stores (someone help me, I can't remember the name). But I dressed up like a Japanese construction dude--- the big MC Hammer looking pants, hard hat, etc :)

I disagree. Tokyu Hands is actually pretty good, but you have to think outside the box when shopping there to put a costume together.

Cospa specializes in "apparel, costume and character merchandise" but, just like Donki and Tokyu Hands, you aren't necessarily going to find a lot of larger sizes.

I really wanted white gloves for my butler costume, the kinds the policemen and train conductors wear here. :p
I actually asked some old guy who was guarding the post office (who looked like the proudest person on the face of the Earth) where he bought his gloves, and he said he got them at the conbini. Well I looked in maybe 20 different conbinis, couldn't find them. I think I'm just gonna be James Bond since I have a bow tie and dress clothes but nothing that has a butler vibe to it.

You were probably thinking of Workman.

I was searching around and found this site as well but damn they are expensive.

The best costumes you can get are the ones you make. Generally, unless I have something very planned in mind, I go scout out the local hardware store and 100 yen shops to make a costume.
