Singapore court fines WSJA for comments on judiciary
Singapore's High Court fined the Wall Street Journal Asia S$25,000 (US$16,492) Tuesday for contempt of court over two articles and a letter that Singapore's government said to have scandalized the judiciary.
High Court judge Tay Yong Kwang also ordered Hong Kong-based Dow Jones Publishing Co. (Asia) Inc. to pay S$30,000 in legal costs.
He ruled the articles insinuated the Singapore courts are subservient to Singapore's elder statesman Lee Kuan Yew and are tools for suppressing political dissent. Read more
