I have to say Nagoya is one of my least favourite places in Japan - I hate the place just from spending too much time transfering in its shit-hole of a station alone.
It does have some pretty funky 2nd handstores that are a bit less gone-over than Tokyo stores though.

Nagoya isn't bad... granted it's a bit featureless and avoidable if you have no connection to the region but it's not as bad as let's say Fukui is it? It's no wonder they put the main train station there in a giant sarcophagus so you can't see what a stupendous shithole it is. It actually reminded me of what a 21st-century east bloc city must have been like if the Soviet Union hadn't collapsed.

I'll concede though I have little to no experience with the other foreigners there so perhaps I'm lucky.

Well, I gotta fess up. I was in nagoya today, hanging with Gill. The city has ONE redeaming feature - this tiny hamburger store called Layers (I think). I'm telling ya, best burger I've had in japan by a mile. Gill even introduced me to the delights of Samual Adams beer to wash it all down with. Take a bow Gill. (But other than that, the place is still a shithole).

I had a real layer in Nagoya once, but for that one, it took two shots to numb and cure the pain...

The place remains on the off limits list for me.
