Online train/subway guides

Postby B Gallagher » Sun Jan 23, 2005 12:21 pm

Hey all,
When I was in Seoul a year ago their train company had an online page which would tell (and show) you the quickest route from A to B on a train map.
Does anyone know if there is a page like this for any major cities in Japan (particularly, Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kyoto)?

Thanks. :)

The following page is wacky, but it's in English and it's good. Not sure why it works the way it does, but it works..

This url might work on Windows using Explorer: http://www.japanhomesearch.com/TravelExpert/TE_main.asp

If it doesn't, do like I do:

1: go here: http://www2.gol.com/users/pbw/tokyosub.htm
2: Scroll down a bit, click on the 'Travel Expert' link under the train map
3: BEFORE IT AUTOJUMPS TO THE MAIN SITE, STOP THE PAGE FROM FULLY LOADING!

You should have a simple page with two fields where you can type in Origin and Destination.. It gives you time, cost, and a choice of routes..

Also handy is the English speaking enquiry line for JR 0334230111, they'll plan your route, tell you where to change trains, times and fares etc.

For anyone who want's JR info in Japanese http://www.jr-odekake.net is awesome!

Sadly not available in English... But very helpful if you can either handle kanji or have a friend to help.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I found it very handy.

Put in your 2 stations and it will tell you what lines to take and how much it will cost. :)

Not bad. Yahoo has one, msn had one (I think) but they were not gaijin friendly like this one.

Livedoor have just introduced livedoor maps - only in Japanese - which also has a function which will estimate your taxi fare. The same calculators are also on the more comprehensive taxisite.

That map looks like it was modeled on a darker version of something like this:

His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."
