Jalapeño or Serrano chilies?

Postby gomichild » Mon Aug 31, 2009 1:49 pm

Anyone had any luck sourcing them here? If so... where (online or physical store)?

Tried growing your own?

Canned chiles are available from FBC in Kobe (but their mark-up is high and I refuse to fund their cult-ish Focus on the buttfuckFamily agenda).

Not always, but frequently discount/wholesale food store Hanamasa carries fresh and canned chiles. If you're adventurous give the closest store a call. (GomiGirl shops at Hanamasa for her business and she might take a look for you.) http://www.hanamasa.co.jp/

Sadly, Costco does not carry many Mexicanitems.

The FBC prices don't seems that bad. What's the Family agenda though?

I've never seen Jalapenos or serano chilies at a Hanamasa. Only raw Thai Chilies. I saw jarred Jalapenos at a Khaldi Coffee one time though.

Thanks guys. Interestingly enough they didn't list them on amazon.jp that I could see .... also my local supermarket carries a lot of the casa fiesta range but not the whole chillies... hmmm ....

Kaldi had totally slipped my mind I did find jarred ones - hmmm I think I'm just going to have to suck it up and give up on finding any fresh.

If you ever do find raw ones, please let me know!

Next year, I will plant enough for more than three households and post here in FG when the peppers are coming mature. I figure the 1st crop will mature late June 2010 (peppers grow well on a fallow piece of land I own that's rather sandy and a bit too hot for most Japanese crops).

If you can stop by Ohio, I have two plants of serrano that are putting out peppers like a mexican chef is torturing them.
