Tokyo women the most dolled up

Postby Bucky » Thu Dec 30, 2010 5:30 am

Indeed I can vouch for the following:

Women in Tokyo apply makeup more frequently and extensively than women in other Asian cities because how other people see them is considered a vital concern, according to a survey on Asian women's lifestyle by Kanebo Cosmetics Inc.

"Tokyo women are distinct for their wish to be stylish and 'kawaii' (cute), for their emphasis on surface qualities, for their awareness of human relationships, and for their concern over how others see them," Kanebo's research arm, Beauty Research Laboratory, said.

"Many women (in Tokyo) still feel embarrassed to appear outside the home without makeup," it said. "The Tokyo responses on the frequency of makeup use reflect this attitude."

Mrs. Bucky's refuses to appear in public minus her "face."

I love makeup but as a new mum I haven't had time in the last few months to put in on. I am lucky if I am wearing a shirt that is not covered in baby barf and that my hair is brushed.

My baby is always looking cute though.

That said, we are going out to dinner tonight and I plan to wash my face and put on some slap.

Fortunately my husband still thinks I am a babe. Poor, delusional, visually-challenged man.

Well I never thought I'd spent 7 minutes watching a makeup application.....but that was hot. Now I'm in the mood to head down to Greji's and see if any goats have wandered away from their pen.....

Next up on 'how to spot bullshit'. How the source of a quote help you dismiss its statement...

It's not the makeup girl... it's the perfume... I CAN'T STAND how woman in japan never put perfume. French kids, usually can follow blindly their mother n shopping centers just thanks to the trace of their perfume. Well except at the cosmetic floor which is considered a war zone with all the jamming and following confusion. After, when you see a cute girl somewhere usually you try to smell her perfume creating a often unique ID key pair.

But here... nothing, it's depressing... The only person putting some, strangely is mominlaw... Which led one day... I saw some cuty with an attitude at Apita (yeah, countryside!!!), old reflex kicks in and in the last meter... I notice she got the same perfume as mom... could not refrain to burst a laugh... Got some black looks in return...

Worse... a friend who was working for Renault Japan in a showroom was always smelling like new tires (rubber-ish smell). Always think aboot her when I go to Yellow hat... sooooo romantic....

I got a perfumed letter once from a lady in Japan that apparently had a thing for me, but wasn't able to get me to notice whatever subtle hints she had dropped until I moved away and she sent the mail. She was definitely in my strike zone, but sadly I was already far away by that point. :wall:

Long before the appearance of Mrs. Bucky, my J girlfriend used a particularly appealing fragrance. Now every time I encounter a woman wearing the same scent, I am reminded of thems days of old and that particular lass.

For some of us, the Japanese tendency to not dump half a bottle of perfume over themselves is a plus. If you have an allergy to perfume, Japan is heaven.

There's no escape from the smell of someone new to Japan who's two cars away on the train.
Eh?

Women where you come from stink from all that artificial piss they spray on their body's. I remember when I attended a sake event in Ikebukuro all the god awful smelling people were from your country, not the Japanese folk. I'm not being racist. Just plain truth. Aside from Japanese men, Japanese women can go a day or two without showering and they still smell good. They don't need perfume. French kids need something good to smell because their mothers probably smell like ##%#, and wouldn't wanna follow them simply for that reason.

Most notable smell I pick up is the Biore. Either that, or Dove.

That really says more about your socio-economic status than it does about the state of perfume use in Japan.

Japanese men/women certainly use perfumes etc, they are just more subtle in their usage than Western counterparts... call it population density or a greater focus on context... whatevs... Back to UYD for me.
