Lies, damn lies, and ...

I think that Mulboyne probably wants to draw our attention to the part of the text he emphasised, with more than half of those granted permanent residence being temporary workers or jobless. I wonder how that compares to Japan: I know that once I got permanency it meant that I was no longer chained to a job in a limited range of industries, and I changed the way I worked so that I would now fall somewhere between self-employed and serial temporary worker, depending on how you regard the relationship with my clients.

What I find interesting is that the report uses an unusual definition of "Higher-educated people with professional skills or higher education:"

Setting to one side the ambiguity of the size of any investment or 'certificate holders,' I wonder how similar statistics line up for Japan, or indeed any other country.

Sadly, this appears to be yet another report with an attention grabbing hook to further some political aim. Is it any wonder that FG is now my go-to source for news and views about Japan?

Can't imagine that he does, that'd be 1 in 6 Koreans...

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Sorry for the delayed response. I was also mistaken about the party that proposed the plans to increase immigration.

Hidenao Nakagawa of the LDP proposed a plan to have 10 million foreigners immigrate to Japan over the next 50 years to bolster the workforce.
