Hi Coligny It is almost 1 am and I have just finished working my new job at an American company telecommuting (Congratulate me people!!! Got some money coming in!) I was promised it wouldn't happened but after the first week I got asked to work the weekend, so today is my 11th day in a row of work. After tomorrow on the 12th day straight of working all night our time I will finally get 3 days off. On friday my first day off I will take the Bullet to Osaka then figure out how the hell to get to the US Consulate ASAP on the 地下鉄, hit them up for some notary stuff I need to take care of at 2 pm. And get the hell to 関空 again asap to pick up the fam who is coming for two weeks. It is a big deal and a lot work but I'm happy to see them and by god I won't be sitting on the machine complaining about it to people who care shit all about it.

I never ever wanted to go back into my career in computers ever again but am very happy to have this job very much because for the last 4, 10, 12 years or whatever it is I have struggled to make ends meet however I could. Just like many other FUCKED gaijin on here. If you would like to hear the story of the last four years and making it on my own with a family you are welcome but I am going to sleep. I can guarantee though you many of us here would be glad to educate you.

Lol that's me in a good mood! I've been an internet admin of some form or another for the last 17 years or so. I once pissed off a group of people so bad that a guy in Gifu found my address through whois and they were planning in private chat (yes we read those) to have him go to my house and do "something". Put a stop to it by banning half of Gifu's IP addresses so they couldn't communicate anymore and could never got back on the network again.

It just really bugs me that you have no motivation to try to learn the language or get out and interact with the natives or whatever but seem to have an opinion about just about everything here. Now one thing leading to another it should not come as a surprise that with so much time available more than a reasonnable amount is used to form opinion right or wrong... As for the language thing again... I don't need a common language to communicate with smart people and no amount of learning will help to deal with the fucking idiots who get stuck at "fureigners can't speak mah superior language anyway" and make a duty to missunderstand anything the same way my request for menu was misread.

Few example, my current cat's vet (the one with a different Benz for everyday of the week). she don't speak english but since in bad times we see each other every day we can perfectly communicate without a full common language. Something she totally forgot when she calls me and can speak for 5 minutes non stop like if I was japanese... same goes with my car mechanics and the salespeople... In fact, I noticed that usually when there is hiccups with some salespeople or technician, the "language barrier" is just a smokescreen people think they can use to bullshit me, mostly because they after have to find other bullshit excuse when the same request is delivered by mominlaw or... But with less reliability by me Julie (I can't count anymore the number of times where after a phone misshaps when dealt in person the same sale drone ask me if my wife is japanese because they couldn't understand well(...) since they usually ask it in front of her they don't realize they are seconds away from being bludgeoned to death)

At the other side of the spectrum the new standardist at my dentist who when taking appointment face to face when come time to choose the hour systematically refuse to understand that "zembum daijobu" accompanied with a smile and twin palm up open hand gesture despite not being "jlpt whatever language" might in this fucking context means AS EVERY FUCKING WEEK that anytime is good for me.
Special mention also for those who, when I ask to speak a little slower, repeat everything at the same speed but LOUDER... (That's mostly an old people thing though)

Went in for cleaning and filled out all my info again (because it's beena whole year!) and the woman spent 15 minutes with a macro lensed SLR taking pics to show me what all the curry and coffee has done to my white teeth from different angles.....only to do a quick clean and say I need to come back next month so she can finish the cleaning. No cavities but really, WTF?? Is it just a scam to try to double their income on cleaning?? I was thinking about refusing to pay if they asked me to pay for cleaning twice...not my fault they decided to waste time doing photography and couldn't finish in time.

I don't fornicating care how you spend your time, but I wonder how it comes you often sound like a stressed-out salaryman while life as a toyboy should be so enjoyable.

The language problem is of course your own problem, and after all you can always ask your kid to help when he is old enough. That said, life does become so much more convenient when you speak the local language, and it may help you understand that there are some unexpectedly cool Japanese people too.

And did you consider what to do when your wife decides she needs another janitor? What CV can you present to the world?
