Cars Cars Cars

Postby aquamarine » Sat Oct 02, 2004 10:32 pm

Well I have been in-country for just over three months now. Definatly not a long time by any stretch of the imagination, HOWEVER I am having a wonderful time. Working 28 days in a row this month to recover some of the 750,000 yen that I blew in the first month, then taking a flight in december to visit some folks.

Now that side, in the end when I make my way back home (providing I do a horrible job and don't get sponsored), I will be wanting to bring a vehicle home with me. Sadly I'm going to be doing the stereotypical thing and hoping for an older Skyline or possibly a Sylvia. Why? They are the Gods amongst cars back home in Canada. It's simple.

Now, my question is this... would any of you know of any decent online dealers that sell them second hand? I've been looking around for awhile now and the only ones that I could find are the one's that specialize in english for the folks back in the USA & Canada... y'know the type, the one's that add about %70 of what they would charge a native.

Just a thought, a question and some hope.

I'm not sure how different the rules between are between Canada and USA, but it's very very difficult to bring cars like that into the States now. I wish I could give more specifics (most of what I've heard is from people on the Japanese forum of rx7club.net responding to the question which get's brought up, A LOT), but you might want to do some research into it before you plonk down the money for a car you won't be able to keep for the long run.

You got it completly the wrong way around

You got it completly the wrong way around. The ENGLISH export dealers actually are cheaper. I buy cars direct from japanese auctions much cheaper than the offerings on the public market. On average its about 300,000yen cheaper per million.

For canada, the car has to be 15 years old or more. That puts you in the league of bringing in a BNR32 or PS13. Dont buy one thats 15 years old now. The aussies are paying top dollar over you Canuks.....lol

Buy a 1990 and keep it till next year. Be very aware of chassis numbers and month of first registration.

If you got other qs, fire away.....

Listen to Hound, he's right.
It's been at least 10 years since I last dabbled in this market (hence I stayed quiet). The Paki dealers out in the Chiba junkyards ALWAYS beat the Japanese sources of cars. Forget about shopping online, drag your butt down to the auto auction parking lots and start talking to all the gaijin you see. The gaijins would take me into the auction saying I was their "assistant", I'd pick the cars I liked and the the Pakis would bid on them. They would then sell the car to me for a 5-10% markup: Couldn't be fairer.

I don't know how "decent" these guys are but they do have a list of current Used Car Prices at Auto Auction (Chiba). The whole "bid" process seems to be via email, fax, and phone.
I'd be hard nosed and offer to pay 5% over the Auto Auction invoice. Hmmm, a 2002 Pimpmobile Cadillac is only 800,000 yen. :P

I suppose I'll post this here.

Friends back in Kenya are wanting to get into the auction car shipping to Africa game, I used to know someone here who played the auction game, but he's since gone back to Australia. Anyone know of anyone who's into this?
