Way back last century, I worked for a place with frextime, and the management regularly complained that there was nobody from my particular department at their desk before 9 a.m. They had some idea that we were expected to create a roster between us as to who will be in before core time. Luckily, we workers knew better than to be so proactive and organised.

The last place I worked generously allowed some flexibility in when we started and finished our 10 hour days.

Don't be ridiculous. That would require twice as many time card record entries.

Way back in the day, before fax-machines roamed the world and teletypes were still all the rage, I worked for a box that cut you 15 minutes off your time, if you arrived late. A red stamp on your time card

Core time started 8:30 or 9:00 iirc and then there was the usual pack of guys arriving 5 mins late every day. Those guys would then ostentatiously celebrate their shame by having their feet on the desks, a coffee and a newspaper in their hands and not picing up their phones for 15 minutes :)

Incidentally, a few years later, the founder/CEO of this box was found with a cut throat one night in a dark spot at a park in Milano, and everyone except his personal secretary sniggered...

Funnily enough I could squeeze in 90 minute lunch breaks with careful timing so the length of my absence wasn't noticed. No time cards stupid music or bell sounds, just a psycho boss. And some obligatory voluntary weekend working.

At The National Museum they instituted a time card system for faculty to Reinforce Worker Solidarity or some such. They fucked it up when they got the security staff to enforce it. I was always polite and explained my rationale for boycotting it, as fully half of us were doing.............the boys at the security desk started punching me in every morning at 9 am on the dot............and apologising to me for compromising my principles by doing so. According to the time cards I regularly put in 14 hour days, but never arrived before 11 am.
It astounds me that they themselves can't figure out that the workers know how to fuck any new system as well as they know how to come up with them. Ancient peoples are fun.

Yeah we had flexi time like that for a while, we had a "core time" when we were supposed to be in the office plus what was basically unpaid overtime.

Now we have the NR system, this means you pretend you are at a client and write "NR" (No Return) on the whiteboard. I think for some people that would more accurately be written BJ.

Flexi time usually translates into the juniors accommodate the laundry habits of the batsu ichi seniors.

But, but, but I thought no one is allowed to start work before the department head gives an awe inspiring lecture and morning exercises are completed.
