I will actually inconvenience my social life to keep my Boycott Korea! campaign alive, but an 8 dollar price difference between beers? EEEK. It sounds like they still have a classic 3rd world economy there from that sort of thing. I'd probably just buy some cheap greasy food to make the Korean beer go down better. I once almost enjoyed a Happoshu while munching a piece of spicy fried chicken.

I wonder if I should take my Boycott Korea camapaign to the wider webz:

Here are some slogan ideas

They stink, and they're still bitchin' about the damn war 70 years and billionses and billionses of dollars in aid later!!!!!!!!!!!

The men make Japanese men look like the love child of Sir Lancelot and Hugh Grant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They don't even eat dolphins, just dog meat!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're KOREANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always admired the way they shot the looting ghetto trash back in the Rodney King riots, though. That was great fun.

Do you have to go there for work, or have you completely lost your mind?

PS I'm actually kidding...............well, mostly kidding..........they are kind of annoying as a people.

Ha - there's an element of truth in what you wrote but I honestly enjoy visiting the place, not working there. Working in Korea tends to make a lot of gaijin/waygugin angry and bitter about the sheer irrationality and smug insularity of bosses, co-workers and sometimes students.

I think what pissed me off the most about work was the way in which no matter how mature or educated or professional or a good teacher or all of them you are, you'll be relegated to the very bottom of the hierarchy of Koreans. Remember - nobody else is important. Apparently Koreans have a special relationship with each other and spend a lot of their time tuning out non Koreans. The role of the non Korean outsider is to sit there and suck up all the bullshit and be left out of the loop.

The Korean insularity can lead to them being some of the most shameless users you will ever meet anytime, anyplace, anywhere. The predominant work culture of 'Only Koreans matter' is even extended to notable foreign university professors. I forget his name but some big name academic left his position early at a prominent K university because of the sheer rudeness manifested by his Korean employers and co-academics as well as general unprofessionalism and disorganisation. A less prominent but high achiever in her field female academic just upped and left, proving that the midnight run is not confined to lowly English language institute teachers.

But I enjoy a holiday in Korea. No clubbing as there are too many arrogant, spoilt Korean males who don't like foreigners enjoying themselves.

The malls are good, you can always find a café or sit eating some really good fast Korean food from convenience stores and washing it down with drinking beer/soju/vodka whatever on plastic tables outside convenience stores just chilling and watching the world go by for hours, you can buy good cheap meals at cheap restaurants everywhere, there are lots of food stalls, there are colourful old Buddhist temples in many places both city and country, you can easily go hiking as most of the mountains aren't nearly as high as those in Japan, you can get to the southwest in around 3 hrs by fast train (nearly the other end of Korea - smaller country is easier to travel in and you can get anywhere easily by the fast and convenient public transport) and go around lots of different islands etc.

Admittedly a lot of the Korean population seems surly on the surface but they're more helpful than they seem and if you know polite Korean like I do that goes a long way.

Apparently better than than this "worst" korean airline:

Vice President of Korean Air loses job after ‘nut rage’ incident on KA flight

Korean Air's shamed former executive, Heather Cho, has been arrested in Seoul as a result of her behavior in the now infamous "nut rage" incident.

The follow up...

Korean Air ‘nut rage’ heiress resurfaces as Olympics VIP while her former target scrubs toilets
