I'm surprised they managed to find the spammer! Usually they're not even in the same country.

Anyway, that's some good news for a change. Spammers are lowlife.

I got an interesting piece of phishing email recently. It claimed that I had asked Japan Post in come around and pick up a parcel but I wasn't there to give it to them.

I took a screenshot of the thing and showed it to my wife explaining to her that it was spam but she remained unconvinced. If it were anyone else, I would probably tell them to go ahead and open it up and find out for yourself.

The problems with the email being:
a) I had not asked to send anything.
b) I was at home at the time they were supposed to have come around.
c) Couriers leave messages in your post office box not by e-mail.
d) How would they know my e-mail address.
e) The spam made no mention of my name, address of any other identifier.
f) It was addressed to multiple users.
g) The e-mail had a noreply address.
h) The e-mail had a zip file attachment which undoubtedly generously contained a virus or key logger.

Most likely to be ransomware, of the "send 0.5 bitcoin today, one 1 bitcoin tomorrow" variety.

So is there a Japanese language version now?

My mother got one in my home country, name of post delivery institution localised. I am surprised that my brother went to the effort of trying to click it and print it, since it should have thrown up any number of red flags. d) is the clincher for me. And h), of course.

Another reason I am glad that I converted my mother to linux: no harm was done, this time. Especially so as I am both the provider of her e-mail address from my domain, so I get the blame for any spam that sneaks through filters, and I have also seemed to become the (very) remote support for her machine.

I received one of these a while back, in Japanese. It was clearly BS for all of the reasons you list, plus I was able to determine that it originated from somewhere in Russia.

Then there were a bunch of threatening "legal" emails claiming to be summons or subpoenas for an assault I had committed ... all in English from countries I have never been to or haven't been to in 20~30 years, and all with attachments containing documents that I was supposed to open (no way). If anyone wants to involve me in an assault case all they have to do is direct me to the cunts that sent those emails.

It comes in waves. Right now there's a bit of a peak going on. In the last few days I have received between 30~40 spam emails per day, almost all of which get blocked by my filter. The ones that don't get blocked get added to a worldwide spam list immediately.

Fucking lowlife.

That phishing email is really scary when you figure it can fool Frau Doktor Dimwit... and therefore it should be able to fool the average Japanese quite easily.

Same here. The address was spoofed, but my server-side filter digs into the header and displays the actual origin so it's easy to see where the sludge is coming from.

Someone wants bitcoin from me :)

Email wrote:Hi, this account was recently hacked! Modify the password immediately!
You may not know anything about me and you really are most likely wondering for what reason you're reading this particular e-mail, proper?
I am ahacker who burstyour emailand all devicessome time ago.
Do not make an attempt to get in touch with me or try to find me, in fact it's impossible, considering that I directed you this message from YOUR own hacked account.
I've build in malware software on the adult vids (porn) site and suppose you visited this site to enjoy it (think you understand what I mean).
Whilst you were watching films, your browser started out functioning like a RDP (Remote Control) having a keylogger that gave me permission to access your monitor and web camera.
Next step, my programobtainedall information.
You have put passwords on the web services you visited, and I already caught them.
Needless to say, you can change each of them, or have already changed them.
But it really doesn't matter, my app renews information every time.
What actually I have done?
I generated a backup of the system. Of each file and each contact.
I formed a dual-screen videofile. The 1 screen demonstrates the video that you were observing (you've got a very good taste, wow...), and the 2nd part displays the recording from your own webcam. (edit by Grumpy: Which shows one of my messy book cases, when not in actual use)
What do you have to do?
Great, I think, 1000 USD is a inexpensive amount of money for our small riddle. You'll make the payment by bitcoins (if you don't recognize this, go searching “how to purchase bitcoin” in any search engine).
My bitcoin wallet address:
13ZDa1sb7pYBpE3FRAvEffkGrdud8AU6qf
(It is cAsE sensitive, so copy and paste it).
Important:
You have 2 days in order to make the payment. (I put an exclusive pixel in this message, and at the moment I know that you have read this email).
To trackthe reading of a messageand the actionsin it, I usea Facebook pixel. Thanks to them. (Everything thatis usedfor the authorities may helpus.)

In the event I fail to get bitcoins, I shall certainly transfer your video files to each of your contacts, including family members, co-workers, etcetera?

Looking at the mail headers, I was very surprised that my "own account" now lives in Vietnam, it's been sitting in Europe until yesterday :)
