Mine wanted to change so she took Matsuki...only in Japan romanji is the forbidden character set for Japanese people (except on passports) so it's マツキ on the koseki and all her ID's....kids would get the same. As you likely already know, the different character set is considered a different name and can cause the occasional moments of
