Allowed to recover the top feline cretin who escaped outside but was unable to ring the bell and was sheltering in the garden doghouse that we keep for strays food and water. (Ok, that was actually a smart move)

From what I understand, on long range the location is transmitted to any networked ios device who relays it to apple. Then on short range its a direct bluetooth signal that allows to activate the locator chime and heading/range viewfinder.
