Fucked for GW?

Hey is it impossible to get resonable flights come golden week? I didn't think six weeks would be a problem, but it seems like they jacked the prices. Is there a way I can get to HK or Bangkock for less than 50K at this point?

Short answer is NO!! Golden week is peak season and so price gouging is SOP.. Hell, it is simple economics, charge what people are willing to pay.

The only way to get around this is do what everybody else does.. use your flyer miles OR buy open tickets which are fixed prices and then use them during peak season.

This is when it's good to not be living in Japan. Makes it nice and cheap to come visit during Golden Week. :D

Yep. My that's the ultimate adventure. Go "tatami class" and drink the entire 60-hr cruise with the construction workers returning home to Shanghai for New Years. The Shanghai Ferry has great cheap Chinese food, an onsen and even the world's funkest "disco". I had so much fun I've done the Tokyo-Shanghai trip once and the Kobe-Shanghai two times. Drinking, eating, judo roughhousing on the mats, drinking, MIXED bathing with baudy farm obaaasan, more drinking, even disco with Chinese factory girls.... man-o-man, I gonna retire and live on the damn Slow Boat.

Remember ONLY go tatami class, for only 22,000yen when discounted (prices vary wildly so double check). I was 'upgraded' to 2nd class it it was the pits without all the vast room of tatami. 1st class is a total waste of money at 90,000+ yen since F'ed GAIJIN POWER allows you to use ALL the 1st class facilities.
