Games like this are why Sega's better off being "platform agnostic" and just making games. Let them innovate and do whatever they want. You can get Samba De Amigo for the Dreamcast, and even pick up the maracas controller to bring the arcade feeling home.

(also available in Japanese - of course!)

First taste of natto: "Since when did they start packaging bile?"

ditto here. I remember my first natto experience happened in new york. a japanese girlfriend comes to visit me from tokyo and brings some natto to manhattan. we're in my apartment, she's looking super hot, and then she breaks out the natto... what happened next was so disgusting that the girl no longer even looked hot. I watched as she sat there and devoured several little packs of natto, slime hanging from her mouth like a sea monster. YUCK! she offered me some, and I tried to get some down to be polite, but the fact that it smelled like old socks nearly made me upchuck. since then, I've managed to force myself to eat natto several times without passing out. each time to impress/be polite to some girl. the things we do for love and panties.

I eat everything including Nato. Using frequent flyer points a few years ago and flying to Tokyo First Class on ANA, I am alone in the cabin with three flight attendants and to my disappointment, the girls were nothing to look at.... but getting back on track, they offered me natto which was the first time I had ever seen that solidified bile. I ate it without making a face to the surprise of the flight attendants. For good measure I asked for some more and from then on I can eat all the natto that I am offered. I am not saying that I like that crap, but I can eat it.

If it is not slimy enough for you as is, add a raw egg to it.

My opinion EXACTLY Jack. It's food. If others can eat it, I can eat.
Like it? Well, "natto maki" at less than 100yen for two rolls make sense to me, economically speaking. Love it? Well...I ain't that henna.

I won't even let my wife bring it in the house. It pisses me off to be that much of a stereotypical gaijin but that shit is nasty.

I guess I haven't quite reached that state of culinary enlightenment. I believe it's called "literally starving to death."

The cook at my school (we get free dinner) made this soup yesterday that, in the words of our teacher from England, "smelled like gorilla ass." I'm not that well acquainted with the great apes, but I guess they must not have good hygeine. My own opinion was that it smelled like week-old, wet roadkill - most likely a skunk, but maybe a possum.

I understand that things were always rosy in some parts of the world, and you ate whatever you could to survive, but if you're not in that situation would it fucking kill you to be a little picky?!?

Well, maybe if I was starving. A big bowl of rice might mask the nastiness enough to make it tolerable.

Don't be silly. You would eat it. It is a very healthy food, fermented soybean.

If you grow up eating it, you like it. Or tolerate it. As an FG, eating natto for your first time in your 20s or 30s, forget about it.

First impression...

Postby Akisa » Sat Apr 10, 2004 11:34 am

First thought getting off the plane was, god I am greasy. Next thought was why is it so dam hot in the terminal? (It was winter). I also wondered why is the hotel so dam hot. Later I learned why, because when you are not paying for the heat, crank it!! I frooze my ass off everywhere else I stayed. I live in New England and I swear, the 2 weeks I stayed in Japan were the coldest I have ever been in my life. I also came to the conclusion that if I could speak Japanese well, I would get so much more out of Japan.

Postby mr. sparkle » Sat Apr 10, 2004 6:46 pm

I actually have video of it. 1995 was the first year I slept on Rop Pongi's floor. I'll show a chunk some day. I have to dig and compress it. But you will be amazed at how skinny we were 9 years ago.

here's what i 'member

I felt like I landed on the moon
Everything was weird
Pongi meets me with tall boys
Train ride was on the Narita Express
Patches of black and sporadic Pachinko Parlors
Radical Culture Shock
Me 'n Pongi drinkin' tall boys
First nite: passed out
First Breakfast: Maguro.
Got to know Jujo - Saikyo Sen really fast
Hottest summer in Japan in 75 years
Met Miss Yamazaki
Kamakura: Great Buddha
Asakusa
Sumida River Boat Ride
Lexington Queen
Roppongi: Gas Panic
Tokyo Tower
Sunshine City Penthouse Cafe
Wandering around Shinjuku
Met punk rock radio friends and then
drank beer on Rob's roof
Yoyogi Park Rock and Roll
Sparkle and Pongi reunite "Love Butter" doing "Wild Thing"
Harajuku nuttiness
Karaoke with 2 girls
Dinner at Miss Yamazaki's apato way out in Sagamiouno
Ginza stroll with Rob's Gal Pal: Mikako
Kabuki with Mikako: got dame'd for taping
Miss Yamazaki sees me off at Narita
Sweet

That was about 2 weeks in Tokyo--
Been hooked ever since! 8O
