I've been to the Sumidagawa hanabi matsuri before. Talk about waves and waves of humanity. It was so hard to find a good vantage point to see the fireworks, and nearly every square centimeter of the entire neighborhood was cordoned off by part-time oyajis who guarded their little patches of land like fiefdoms. The tall buildings in the area obstructed the view as well.

Nevertheless I'd recommend going to see it once. The double fireworks display is pretty cool to watch. And if you time it right, you'll be able to walk across the bridge during the finale.
