There really is a Fucking village in Austria, that is a village named Fucking. The village folk only learned what their town meant in English in 1945 when Allied soldiers arrived.

To stave off the constant theft of their village sign a vote was taken to see whether residents wanted to rename their town. They don't.

The town was named after the man who settled it but there is no word on whether anyone ever checked to make sure this was truly his name or just the adjective used by residents at the time to describe him.

The settlement's only significant feature is a traffic sign with its name on it at which English-speaking tourists invariably stop to have their photograph taken. The sign is the most often stolen street sign in Austria. A considerable portion of Fucking's budget is spent on replacing the stolen signs.

Ah, Austria - the country where some of my mail was sent (instead of Australia) when I homestayed in Japan. Probably due to my bad pronounciation.
