Looking for decently priced JP Rail Pass

Postby dragojin » Wed Aug 25, 2004 12:22 pm

A friend from work recommended I try JAL's all-Japan rail pass good for around 1 week costing around $250. It's supposed to be good for all buses and trains.

Can anyone point out any cheaper rail passes, or ones they would recommend? It sounds like a good way to save a bundle of money and see the other cities of Japan other than where I would be based from, in Tokyo. Example, Osaka, Kyoto, etc.

AFAIK, there is only one JR pass. You pay for the time period you want it for, I think anywhere between 1 to 3 weeks.

As for getting the best price, buy it when the Yen conversion rate is good for your currency.

FYI, I bought a 1 week pass and only got checked once to see if it was expired. Needless to say, I used that baby for more than one week to save some huge $$$ for my trip from Hakone to Osaka and elsewhere.
