Not a fan of anime . Not a fan of much of anything about Japan. Not a fan of the neighbourhood dogs who start going off at around 6 each morning and definitely not a fan of the fuckwit ownwers who who think it`s alright if their critters go beserk at any given time. Not a fan of bosozuku, nor of the election vans or anything else that infringes on my right to a peaceful existence. noise travels across fences and through walls. It`s the same anywhere. The wa has been shattered through thoughtless acts that seem normal here, so i feel no sorrow about having a go at them about their desregard for my space.
And to answe the question about why I came here. My job shitted me off and I needed a change. nothing more. I had travelled heaps, but not Japan, and it seemed like the right time. so here I am, making plans to resume my life back home amongst things that are concrete (haha, concrete, haha) in my mind. fuck this bullshit not said, but said attitude. I`ll say it and suffer the consequences.
So to you who want to come, I say `good on ya. It`s your decision`. Go for it, but don`t be dissappointed if it doesn`t seem likr the utopia you may have envisioned.

Eneman, you just described America in all it its glory. For that matter, most of Canada, eastern Europe, and Germanic countries as well. It just seems that the world is that way, and that's how life goes.

I don't mind the dogs.
Why do the Japanese always have to have a favorite saying?

Arrogance and ignorance is a part of us all, I suppose. Everyone is responsible for themselves and those (things) in their care. So, I don`t blame the dogs either. I blame the moronic owners who seem not to care about the dogs or the people around them. And don`t get me started on the gomi around these parts. It`s the `I don`t give a fuck if it doesn`t directly affect me` syndrome that hurts the most.
At home in Oz the rules that govern social behaviour seem to be adhered to better than here. Of course there are exceptions, namely graffitti, crime and loud music played by retards with no respect. Even these exceptions are punishable by a government or beauracracy more committed to enforce these laws (not very successfully).
In short, I have tried to understand the mindset but it is so different to mine that I have all but given up. That is not to say that certain things and certain people impress me here.

Speaking of dogs barking early - this morning I had a minivan flying around proclaiming very loudly through a loudspeaker what I:m guessing is a party broadcast.

I could do without being programmed at that time of the morning - although my brain is probably at its most pliable

Quick side note - why are space bars on Japanese keyboards so small? Not good for already bad typists like me...

Mmmm, because the primitive Japanese language hasn't invented spaces yet.

(The spacebar is smaller because Japanese hate spaces and loooove all those funny henkon/convertion keys for all their silly kanji and kana.)

What about the "Grass is greener on the other side" syndrome? I know its easy to think that any place other than where you've been living your whole life is better. Did anyone feel that way before moving to Japan? What about when the culture shock wore off? Does it ever wear off?

Oh yeah, and what about earrings? If I'm working for a high school would they care that I have a pierced ear even though I'm a guy? Sorry for the non-sequitur; I just thought I'd throw that in.
