The USA has just cloned and sold it's first animal for 50K. It was a cat, next they will be doing dogs, and some say eventually humans!

Now for the question..........

Would you want to bring someone that you used to know or loved (or even a good-looking celebrity, person from history, anyone you wanted) back to life for yourself if you had enough money to pay for it???

Besides the various ethical and medical issues involved, having the same DNA does not mean they will become the same person. A certain amount of a human is determined by DNA, but a lot is determined by environment.

Using myself as an example, if a very certain series of events had not taken place I would never have come to Japan. If I hadn't come to Japan I would certainly lead an extremely different life than I do now. I would be emotionally and intellectually a totally different person, even though my DNA encoded bits (eye colour, hair colour, etc) would be the same.

In cats and dogs this will be true too, although probably to a lesser extent.

I see no emotional point in bringing back pets or humans in this way. I do see very big advantages in extending lifespans and to studying DNA etc for disease prevention/treatment though.
