"Everybody loves Japanese food. Foreigners are all jealous of our healthy diet."

Can you say - instant ramen, tempura, karage and croquette?

I ate a lot healthier back home in Oz - what I wouldn't do for some decent tasting low-fat yoghurt...

Besides what's to be jealous about? You can't even walk into a mall without tripping over a sushi take-out at home nowadays. And the sushi at the Glebe Fish Markets - almost still wriggling and half the price...mmm...

Why I even bother to read these kinds of crappy articles...

I dont like it that in Aomori, Everything is small. I had to sit sidways on the bus all the time. Some older man wanted to sit beside me even tho there were other seats and i was taking the whole seat. (i'm six-ten around 270lbs.)

Everything else is wonderful, I love going out on the town cuz when you want to go someplace different, you dont have to drive, you just walk around the corner. I can PISS if i feel like it and noone looks at me strange. Just as long as its in a secluded corner.
That leads me to a FG moment.

We were having our bonnenkai (sp?) and we were walking from an izakaya to a karaoke place. Well, I spotted a dark alley way that looked nice to relieve myself. So I dropped behind everyone and ducked in there. I knew where everyone was going so I could catch up. I'm in midstream (the part where its getting good. guys'll understand) and one of the staff ladies came around the corner looking for me. And it was obvious what I was doing.
She yelled (drunk) CHARUZU(charles), nani yatten no?! What are you doing?
I said, urusai yo, gammen dekinakatta. Kore ga hen? (now I'm holding this conversation while still relieving myself). Shut up! I couldnt hold it. Is it strange? Japanese men do it, so why cant I?
She said , demo BUT.

By this time im finishing, I zip up and walk toward her. And she says to me. Charuzu yappari oyaji da. Yup, you really are a dirty old man.

I laughed myself into a coughing fit.

Things I least like about Japan

Postby GomiGirl » Fri Nov 01, 2002 2:05 pm

Some of the things I least like is the pissing and spitting in public!!!!

Come on there are clean toilets everywhere and there is no need to spit - it is a learned action from childhood that is perfected as the perps get older. There is absolutely no physiological need to spit - it is just that people think that is acceptable.

I have to agree with gomichild - ramen has such a high fat and salt content!! Plus this was a dumb article... how many more steroetypes can we endorse?

On the other hand, what makes me feel sad is that there are so many Japanese guys losing their hair who don't look as cool as Western guys."

Balding is not limited to asian men... Also coolness is not a race issue either... :?

If women could piss as easily as men they would be leaking in public too. But I think they would at least try to be a little more inconspicuous compared to men...

Japanese people dress nicer and are more fashionable.

 Laugh...Cough...wheeze.

Okay, they do pay more attention to clothes, but I can't say I'm envious of some of the fashion choices I've been seeing lately--from the open-toed shoes worn with stockings to capri pants worn with high-heeled boots. I also like how the girl who said that seems to be co-opting black American culture herself.

All these responses and no one has mentioned love hotels?

Love:

1) fishnet stockings
2) food
3) loyalty among friends
4) public transportation
5) onsen
6) izakaya

Hate:

1) oyaji
2) corporate management
3) government
4) sticklers for being on time
5) smokers (*hack* *cough* *wheeze*)
6) nobody washes their hands after using toilet
7) "Can you use chopsticks?"
8) "How is Japanese food?"
9) "What's your hobby?"

There are many others for both lists, of course, but those come to mind first.

Autumn in Japan

Postby GomiGirl » Tue Nov 05, 2002 12:41 pm

Seasons seasons season!! Oh how I love them.

Have just spent a wonderful weekend viewing Autumn leaves and sitting in numerous onsens staring up at the glorious Fuji-san. So all is good with the world today despite this head cold that just won't quit.

What do I love about Japan - outdoor onsens!!

(Admittedly I have seen more naked women over the age of 80 in the last 3 days than I care to mention.)

1. Sento (I'm a HUGE man and its nice to soak in hot water up to my neck every now and then.)
2. Outdoor Onsen. I agree with GomiGirl on this one. Aomori has some GREAT Outdoor Onsens. Its nice to sit outside with snow falling and one is sitting in a a nice and HOT bath with a beer in hand. The sensation of cold air in the face while sitting in hot water is unbelievable.
3. Japanese Beer
4. Yakizakana
5. Yakitori
6. Izakaya (Good Food, Good Beer, Good Karaoke.....Good Times)
7. 24 hour a day alcohol availability. (It sucks to run out of drink in the middle of a party with no way to get more....even if its a one man party.)
8. Gyudon. Gyudon. Gyudon. 'nuff said.
9. Enka. (I'm Oyaji at heart. Sorry if you cant understand this one. It's perfect drinking music. MUCH better than country music)
10. Sake! (My father in law got me trashed one night. I love drinking with him.)

Things I DONT like.
1. Everything is in miniature.
2. Japanese cheap hard liquor. (it doenst start getting good until you get over 10,000 for a small bottle)

Not much I dont like about Japan.
