i think the aussie dollar has really appreciated. i regularly watch the canadian dollar (i send money monthly back to canada), and it's really not changed against the yen much in the six years i've been here. the aussie on the other hand has appreciated against both which to me suggests a true appreciation since both are commodoties currencies. the aussie and the loonie are almost at parity right now, up from something like $1.30 australian to the canadian dollar awhile back.

most currencies currently reflect a weakness in the u.s. dollar rather than strength per se. my two cents anyway, but the u.s. $ was overvalued, something like the euro currently is.

as for where it will go, personally, i wouldn't bank on it taking another major dive down anytime soon, certainly not in the 60 cent range.

i have nothing to back any of this up and i'm not an economist, but the general trend for commodoties currencies just doesn't seem to be downward right now and i think it would take a sharp upturn in the u.s $ to change that. the u.s. seems to have backed off a strong dollar policy for the time being.

also, trying to predict currency movements is dicey at best.

any real economists here with a better insight?
