Sorry to say it, but I agree. When the majority of the posts deal with "fucking J-bitches", "tips on boning married women", and "how stupid Jap women are", it's turned from Fucked Gaijin to Young Dudes in Japan.

I can no longer recommend FG, nor feel comfortable posting where the natives are refered to as 'japs'.. I'm also not 16 anymore, and I've outgrown bragging about my lays in order to be accepted by my peers.

Bye, for now. :(

I think it is entirely possible that this TedBundy imbecile is really NWA posting under a different name. Ever since that twit showed up the level of this board has dropped to Yahoo level. He even brought the stupidest white man in history back to life.

Your culprit (or instigator) is NWA.

Or we need to selectively pour fertiliser on the flowers so the weeds aren't so visible. Where is Taro with his daily plethora of new posts?

Josh, if you're referring to the internet as the field, then I agree. However, if you're referring to the FG board as the field then I do not.

This was a very stable board, with a solid group of regular posters. It's degenerated greatly in the last couple of weeks. The YD board and your board both provide good outlets for the "party" (for lack of a better word) crowd. FG was mostly people interested in the culture of Japan, their experiences in Japan and a general sharing of more "mature" information.

FG has become severly F'ed up. It needs a healthy dose of banning (and approval of new accounts) to get it back to normal.

What can the moderator do?

Look at the latest posts, different users or different names it doesn't matter much. Either Josh has put a sign up on his website saying "Go and Pollute FG", or he's frantically registering as multiple new users in fear of being banned again. Either way it seems to me FG Forum may be Fucked.

If there is one, please let me know where the new clubhouse is hidden.

The solution is simple: give me executive authority, and I will make certain that the trains^H^H^H^Hboard runs on schedule.

Seriously though, it's not that hard. A good moderator can quickly do the right thing and flush out the bad stuff. An even better system would make three regulars moderator, and if all agree to disconnect a user, then the target account and all of its posts are removed.

There was a point earlier this year when no new accounts were being made and guest posting wasn't allowed. Clearly, we need a spell of that again.

I'd say 3 mods, able to act independently. Just pick long-time posters who have the time to do it properly. Kill off the trolls, clean up the boards and put the house back in order.

As long as we're levelling the playing field and getting rid of hate speech and trolls, that's fine. But as the board seems to be predominantly male, let's not tip the see-saw too far over here.

No personal attacks - I expect there will be the occasional flame on any board, as threads can get emotional sometimes. Every now and then is okay, but repeat flaming? Not good.
Lifetime ban for multiple names - check
No hate speech - okay, I can see this. But sometimes somebody will have a bad day or feel slighted by somebody of a different race/gender/nationality and want to vent. I have no problem with venting/ranting, but if every post is "bitch" this, "nigger" that, "whore" this and "jap" that - it's too much.

I agree that the current state of affairs is due to a small number of people, but cleaning it up should not take the board in any direction other than back to where it was a couple weeks ago.

i'm a relative newcomer here, but also feel this is getting screwed up, i mean, this is nothing compared to what happens on emulation boards, but still..

i'd say its better to have 3-5 mods, who can ban a member straight away, if a member is offensive enough to get banned, all their posts should be removed as a matter of course, their ip should be banned also

perhaps a cradle of filth page showing banned fools/ip/email addresses to add to the shame?

this site has a good rep, its the only japan based forum i visit, i find others too uptight / full of myopic "japanologists" shit i hate that term or that ilk, who cant see beyond their ass or full of idiots or people that mostly dont even live here

at fcked you can find advice, people with all sorts of experience / knowledge, a willingness to help and discuss, overall, a lack of arrogance /egotism.. its so damn refreshing, intriguing, relaxing... addicting...

i bloody love this place, and it encourages me to keep learning, and questioning the things around me..

i doubt Ultra would want the regulars to go away, so something is sure to be done..

i also agree that things should continue like before... there werent any problems then, apart from posts getting hijacked by flamewars...

just my 2 yen

I know that it is tempting to slow down and look at car accidents.. however, usually what you see is unpleasant.

Be strong and use the "ignore" button.. that is what it is there for. You know the people whose posts you don't care to read - so don't be tempted.

Don't feed the narcissism of the trolls. If you answer them and wade around in their mire, then they only get more and more offensive. If you ignore them, they will get bored insulting each other go away.

Caustic Saint - I am not sure what you mean with see-sawing of the board from being predominately male? Do you want me to go away too?

i'd think he meant he'd like to see more women here, i sure would too.. theres a severe shortage of female perspective....

thing is GG, sure you can use the ignore button, but when you have to scan for the thread you want, but the board is clogged up with junk threads that gets annoying.. or does the ignore button also remove threads by the user also?

Not at all! I was just commenting on the makeup of the board, and how any rules should reflect that - and any future changes that may occur. As the board is largely male now, instituting a slew of "female friendly" rules is unnecessary and would be reactionary to what's been posted lately.

Besides, you've been here a lot longer than me, what right do I have to ask you to leave? None.

I originally couldn't register when I wanted to (earlier this year) due to a similar situation. I was patient and waited until things settled down. It was a reasonable solution, and I'm sure one can be found for the current state of the board.

Conspiracy Theory

Postby kurohinge1 » Tue Aug 12, 2003 1:05 pm

Could this be a cunning plan by an Axis of Evil to take over the board?

Could Evil Pongi and Soviet Supreme be funding the recent invasion of the Men Of Rittle Or No Significance (aka MORONS)???

The plan may be to wear down the resolve of normal posters by the recent and sad postings by the MORONS, to pave the way for the installation of a fascist moderator dictatorship ... Image

Alternatively, it may be nothing to do with those two loveable rogues and the MORONS could actually exist and be breathing the precious air of this planet.

I know which is more scary ...

I think the board being largely male is really a reflection of the foreign community in general. The culture of the board is usually pretty good but I don't think that general good manners or a non-racist atmosphere needs to be described as female friendly. Correct me if I am wrong..

There are women only boards and they are great for different things.. and yes they are very polite and meet a need in the community. If a female is sensitive to stuff then this is not the sort of board she would come to.. there is no way that this board could be confused with a women's board.. take a look at a few and see what I mean.

I come here to waste time and blow off some steam as does everybody else. I live and work in a male dominated world so this board suits me fine. When I need to know specific things I use different boards.

I don't use the "hot topics" I use the "New posts" link. I can then scan all the threads with new posts since last time I visited and choose what I want to read.

I couln't have said it better, not that what I said matters. Ultra is of the SAME opinion, when Tina T. and I last talked to him at the the "pre-FG party." Already, there's seems to be an almost, urrr, ummm, "group consensus" developing on this matter. Yikes we're turning Japanese, Puke.

Honestly, Taro & Ultra, I urge you to reconsider. The difference between a slum and a decent community isn't race or income, it's community control over the community. Once you lose that control, or are challenged from outside, things go bad.

As you can see from members leaving, threatening to leave, and liberally using the "ignore" button (which destroys the continuity of the threads but I've been finding increasingly necessary), the community is falling apart. Doing nothing will only hasten this. Is this the consensus goal of the group? If so, count me out. Maybe you've forgotten that members of a group have a responsibility to protect it.
