I use the kitco app. Precious metals, Base metals, Oil & indices, Currencies. 120.0500 as of right now.

I use that as well, just a page full of widgets for all the metals, oil, NYSE, SP500, FTSE, , then tickers for USD:JPY/GBP/EUR.

the only issue is that i dont have enough space to put it all on one page

I love it. When I get to Japan I just use my Cdn bank and don't have to dick around with my savings and crap still in J-land.

I have a few friends that obsess about it like they're characters in a Dickens novel, and I get they're still Eigo Mercenaries even after 15 years but I always found it far too much to worry about for so little effect, plus it makes them look like plebby hicks. A few times I made out like a bandit, a few times I lost a bit, oh well, them's the breaks.............

I think a lot of guys just want to feel like they're international players so they talk about it like it matters to them when it doesn't in reality. I do like a strong yen when I'm traveling abroad. It is also nice for paying off my student loans but I certainly don't obsess about it.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I know it comes down to background, but the amounts they boast about seem so painfully trivial, and none of these guys grew up poor. The attention and energy required cost me far more than 1 or 2% is worth.

I get why people like it either weak or strong, natch, especially people sending money home for reasons like yours. I like it weak because it makes my migratory life easier. Plus it makes Them so whiney. Which is petty of me, I know.

Dollar Hits 12-Year High Against Yen

The dollar pushed to a 12-year high against the yen on Thursday, buoyed by investors betting that the U.S. has emerged from its economic slowdown and is moving toward higher interest rates.

The dollar rose 0.2% against the yen in late-afternoon trade to ¥123.97, on track to hit its highest New York close since Dec. 5, 2002. Earlier in the day, the dollar reached ¥124.46, before pulling back.

Yeah, the US dollar seems to be going rogue again. We're not seeing any of the usual drafting effect on the Maple Bacon dollar. I get that our economy is in the tank with the oil prices and all, but is the US' really that good or is it the herd thing where everybody rushes to the reserve currency?

I've mentioned it before, probably in this thread, but I have long stopped regarding the USD as a standard of value, against which other currencies should be compared. Of course, those of who who have transactions involving USD do need to pay attention, but to those of us dealling with different exchange pairs, these conversations are largely irrelevant, and I tend to read this thread title as "What's up with the value of the USD?"

The only guy I know who tries to keep up with the actual M3 - money supply since the FED stopped publicly reporting it. Also he gives an accurate rate of inflation.

The JPY-crosses are the big movers overnight after some two-faced comments by the BoJ's Kuroda, which suggested that policymakers were keeping an eye on the weakening currency, yet at the same time saw no indication of a weak Yen hurting Japan. In either case, the market has unwound short-term short Yen positions fairly quickly, with both EURJPY and USDJPY falling back to important mean reverting levels established on medium-term timeframes.
