Remind me not to doze off in front of NHK, dem earthquake warnings are not a nice way to be woken up.

Ancient technology where when someone was telephoning you, you had to walk to a cabled part of the house and pick up the receiver without knowing who was calling you before they spoke, and where they had to remember the proper 下の名前 for the household member they wished to speak to.

We wuz actually going to get one because of the earthquakez, but it turned out it would effectively be an IP telephone with a fancier number but higher price, so declined.

Is it possible to get a good old fashioned copper wire phone line installed? NTT took down the wire when we changed ISP recently. Everything (phone/TV/internet) comes down a fibre optic cable and gets sorted by an ONU (Optical Network Unit) in the house. I suppose they must still be running the old copper wire exchanges but getting a new line installed? I hear sucked teeth.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I suspect the days when you could get a decent electric shock from fiddling around with the phone socket (been there, done that, don't tell Deutsche Telekom) are long gone. Pretty certain that the communication wires on Avenue Yanpa (new road, new concrete utility poles) bear light tubes only.

They tried to cut our copper when putting fiber... I asked if it will work in case of power outage... They let the copper... (use the landline once every two years anyway and all calls are for the car)

Just a headzup for peeps up north-east...

Tsuyu rain heading more or less your way... Awesome morning commute between flooded streets and 0 visibility downpour. And as usual 1 car out of 10 putting its lights on..,

Where is that?

Here in the west it is 31° at most even a week after that taifoon has passed. Unusually cool this summer.

Yeah, Tokyo hasn't been too bad since the typhoon either. The evenings have even been pretty pleasant.

BigT had its micro climat of doom... Traditionally summer is good until obon then it's game on...
This year it was bad since june and got even worse after obon.
Today might be better as we started with a 10 minutes sky tsunami (like a sea tidal wave, but from the clouds stuck by the hillrange and taking a gigantic instant dump/enema)

Nagoya, too. Pretty good until now. Even now just only 31°. The first obon-week for years that my aircon has been off a few hours a day. Now humidity levels are rising, though and I am beginning to watch YouTube-videos about ice-fishing and the like to keep my soul healthy :)

When I lived in Kanto, every year around 15 August I would think "Yep, this weather would make me give up too. 1945 was surely no different."

Stop being a pussy. According to the weather map you guys are only going to see a high of 33 today. It could be worse. Nagoya is looking at 36. Plus if you were in Nagoya, you'd be in Nagoya.

Isn't the rainy season the only season in England?

No, they occasionally have drought, where it doesn't rain for three whole days.

I think you're thinking of the green valleys. Unofficial motto ..."In Wales it rains forever."

Well yes, this would be Wales... A very English-speaking part of Wales, where they are unable to agree on the spelling of the Welsh translation of the place name. An "only Welsh-speaker in the village" kind of place. Literally straddling Offa's Dyke (ooh-err). Nice place for the offspawn to commune with nature (in between rain showers).

This lady, who I have linked to before, is in Presteigne, which is a bit of Wales which so much wants to be English it sticks a long, thin finger of territory in. It still doesn't stop every street having bilingual name alternatives.

https://www.youtube.com/user/TitlisGarden
It doesn't look too unpleasant, and I've been keeping track each week. She is about to go on hiatus, though.
