Please don't as this is best way to find yourself banned. Trust me, we do check.

Good rule of thumb - don't feed the trolls.

this forum and myself have a great history of feeding the trolls. It is as if it is some kind of U.N. mandate.

Short Introduction.

Postby Matteo » Fri Dec 31, 2010 1:58 am

Hello everyone allow me to introduce myself, I have been a long time reader of f*cked gaijin. I just thought I would finally sign up for the forums, any ways I work as an investment banker for Barclay's here in the UK and I am going to be transferred to Japan (YAY!)

I have sorted out all the visas and documents and will be heading over there next week, although I am going to be in Tokyo which will be nice although I want to be based in Hokkaido. I am fluent in Japanese so there won't be any language problems. Just one question where in Tokyo should I go to just chill and relax a few of my friends are also being sent here for a while.

Wot? Barclays is sending people INTO Japan? Last time I walked past Roppongi Hills I swear I saw them lowering lifeboats from the windows.

Matteo wrote:Just one question where in Tokyo should I go to just chill and relax a few of my friends are also being sent here for a while.

Well, the traditional answer is to take the elevator downstairs to Heartland. Next, as an expat working in finance, you might find yourself getting very adventurous and branching out to the area of Roppongi within a 300m radius of the office for the next few years.

But if you are fluent in Japanese, seriously, don't waste all your time with your colleagues who will be bar hopping in Roppongi until they are sent home in 2014. There are much more interesting parts of Tokyo to hang out in (too numerous to list). And while you don't have to be fluent in Japanese to wander out of Roppongi, I think a lot of parts of the city, as well as bars & restaurants, are a lot more accessible when you can read and speak. My advice: get as far away from Roppongi as possible.

This is very good advice. It also makes Roppongi a less crowded place for me to continue my on-going important research into various ways of exposure to STD's and the numerous cures.

Herro from Tokyo Joe

Postby TOKYO JOE » Sun Jan 30, 2011 8:48 pm

Herro all. I'm new here. If you are thinking of coming to Japan ask me a question here because I can help you out. I've started a Tokyo Forum Podcast you can see it here on YouTube.

I also like whiskey so let me know if you are around Tokyo Midtown and we can get a dram or two.

What if we are already in japan, can we still ask questions? I really need to know why I can't find a used output shaft for my 1983 kubota sunshine tractor, can you help? I had to have the last one custom made:sad:

My father has a Kubota in Canada and seems to be able to get used parts okay. I think the last thing was a used radiator. Maybe you need to go to Canada to get used parts for your Japanese tractor. ;)

Just another FG from the US living in Tokyo. Been here about 3 years now but I had lived off/on in Aichi for school back in 2001. Anyhow, looking forward to contributing to more of the assery here.

FG Lurker wrote:How big are you feet? US size 10.5 (Japanese 29cm) is the largest carried in normal shoe stores here. I've seen up to Japan size 32cm (US 13.5) on rare occasions in factory-direct "outlet shopping mall" stores but never anything larger. Selection at anything over 29cm is very limited when it can be found at all.

Reminds me of when I was trying to buy ski boots back in the mid seventies. We called sports stores from Hokkaido to Honshu and finally found one pair of 29cm Nordica boots at Marusa in Sapporo. Fortunately, at the time I was in Sapporo and was able to get them. Also make sure and buy socks BEFORE going to Japan. I will usually put my big toe through Japanese socks after just one day.

Welcome to the board! Where will you be settling? What brings you back to Japan after a decade away?
