Some people have different sets of values.

You and I have had our own differences because our value sets are different.
I thnk I'm right. You think you're right. It's human nature.

I think the problem however goes beyond differences when there is a denigration of another's vaules, such as calling someone a Bible thumper or a Jesus freak.

When there's name calling and labels flung, there isn't any room for civilized discourse.

Example: Let's say I disagree with homosexuality. (Which I do.)

If I walked up to a known homosexual and screamed "FAGGOT!" at them, all it's gonna do is put them on the defensive.
Of course it's a blunt force way of letting them know how I feel about homosexuality, but what am I trying to accomplish? They know they're gay. They know I know they're gay. What's the point?

A more penatrating statement would be to explain my point of view.
Would they listen? Maybe not, but it sure would disturb their peace of mind because no anger on my side was given.

Same as someone yelling NIGGER or HONKY. Is one expressing a point of view or trying to wound? Or both? And if so, why? Why is it important for and individual to inflict their point of view that forcefully on a stranger?

On a message board, it's a more intimate atmosphere and we each are personalities and there tends to be more give and take., but when names and lables are thrown around (fundies), it can be viewed as an attack or....
