Yes, very amusing; wifey went into full panic mode tonight, when she drove us to an internet-café, where they still have Windows-computers. Wonder, where she left her winter driving abilities. Back in the day, when we lived in alpine Europe, she wouldn't blink at any amount of snow. Maybe too much watching the bitching baa-chans on J-tv; she believes everything they say despite her own experiences, unfortunately...

Sometimes I find the most dangerous thing on the road in snowy conditions is not the odd sheet of ice, but just other drivers. Perhaps Mrs Grumpy was being prudent in worrying about the other people on the road who are not used to snow and have not experienced alpine splendour.

The rule I grew up with was if you change your tires before May there will be at least one more big storm, and you will be caught in it or need to drive in it. Not sure how that translates for where you are; our winter in Canader lasts an extra month or so.

Over here it looks like early March is going to come in April; seems fair enough, as April came from about mid-February on.
