I do my best to let shit roll of my back... I've had lots of practice over the years in Japan.

I don't think it's "just humor" in this case. It was meant as humour I am sure -- Taro seems like a good guy from the posts of his I've seen. But this is unfunny.

Do you know the history of the photo of the little girl? It was one of the most famous photos of the Vietnam war and won a Pulitzer prize. You can read about the photo and the 9 year old girl here.

I am not some nutty totally anti-war peacenik, but I don't think there is humour to be found in the suffering of innocents, especially children.
