The photo was taken at LaLaPort Yokohama. One wonders how the summit is in danger from terrorists on a shopping spree.

One of us read that wrong. I thought he admitted he intended to do that, he just didn't mean anything by it. Not Koroshi-gumo, the old scooter parking space guy. And I sympathise: I still regularly pack sharp things in my carry on. Most of us just don't care that the Trade Towers aren't there anymore, as sad a day as that was. And it was a very, very sad day.

BTW, we used to drive over those coolers at Kyoto University. It's an old trick, but they thought it was a clever one. It isn't. Cars usually win. Kinda cute, though. The Kingdom of Hima.........Japan. Good for them.

Today's news...

Now someone wants to do it all over again.

Oh shit. I just read the article you linked. What an asshole.

On 29 March, a cleaning woman at Kyoto City Hospital came across a strange box in the parking lot. It was made with Styrofoam and had a rock on the lid. Beneath the rock was an envelope with “DANGER: DO NOT TOUCH” written on it in katakana: Japan’s boldest form of writing.

Despite the mysterious warning, the woman wasted no time in opening the box and found that it contained a clear plastic bag with a colorless, odorless liquid inside, at which time she notified a security guard who in turn contacted police.

Treating this as a possible terrorist threat, police mobilized dozens of officers and SWAT team members. Nineteen fire trucks were also called in along with the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Counter-Terrorism Unit fully equipped in hazmat suits. The stretch of highway 9 running along the hospital was also closed down as a precaution.

[...]

The elderly man told the authorities that he had left the box there two days before so that he could get a good parking spot for his scooter when he visited. “If I wrote ‘DANGER’ on the box, then no one would mess with it,” he explained to the police. With that, police dropped the charges since the man’s intent was not to disturb the peace of workings of the hospital, and let him off with a stern warning.

I love it that he wanted his styrofoam box back.

Not wildly inappropriate for gastroenterologists and proctologists, especially as wikipedia suggests that last term is now no longer favoured. Ever-mirthful Google Translate suggests "Anus department."

Once inside the building, their reception has a sign Shiba International Coloprotologic Clinic, as does the angel Taro posted.

I am perhaps more concerned that this building is arse over teeth.

All the waste bins on my crappy local line have been blocked off and many of the stations I stopped at recently are graced by the presence of the Plod. I checked for signs of SJ but no luck, though it is the same line Matsuki uses.

Has anyone pointed out that suicide bombers tend not to hide in waste bins BTW?

That is so unfair! You know the police are fully prepared for any terrorist activity because they've done the drill where they valiantly apprehend a bloke in a black cap and face mask who has been running around waving a stick and *gasp* maybe even a terrifying plastic gun while aggressively rolling his R's. Japan is safe.

Oh I see, the police are watching out for suspicious containers being left at the station out of which the terrorists are expected to burst.

Drive in to work today had about triple the number of cops hiding in the alleyways...basically pulling over people they see holding keitai with driving or scooters for minor violations but it's still really creepy to see them hiding behind buildings and shit. On Hai Arert!! (for minor traffic viorations)
