And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Another elevator joke

Postby wu » Fri Apr 07, 2006 5:34 pm

You can ask this joke in J or E (for your bilingual buddies), but the punchline is in Japanese:

A man and a woman enter an ascending elevator. On the way up, the cable breaks, and the elevator plunges into the basement. The woman dies, but the man survives. Why?

[quote="wu"]Not beautiful translations, but close to either "Couldn't span it" ]

I think most people call pubic hair ‘inmou’ (陰毛) and wouldn’t use 股毛. But that was pretty good for a riddle you made up yourself! Good job.

Alternate riddle; if it was a little boy falling in the river, instead of a little girl, then you could say why did the little boy fall in? ‘botchan dakara’*. :)

* 'botchan' being a young boy and also the word for the sound of something 'plonking' into the water.

1) An FG fell asleep on the Yamanote-sen, and when he awoke, he didn't know where he was. He got of the train, and read the sign. He was even more confused. He asked the station master: "Why does this station have 3 lines, and 3 boxes?"

Where was he?

--------------------------------------------------------

2) Which station on the Yamanote-sen has only K and A in it's name?

This thread hasn't had much action recently, so I have upped 3 new problems....

I have also included some hints at the bottom to make it easier.

Image

_ _ / _ _ _ _ <-- Japanese answer. Each space (_) = one kana character.

Image

_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ <-- Japanese answer. Each space (_) = one kana character.

Image

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ <-- English answer. Each space = one English character.

The last one is kind of tricky ;)

Is the first one "aka shingo" (red color, shi-n go-u)?

And is the second one banana juice? (I don't have Japanese text at my office, but it would be spelled in katakana - "ba-na-na j-u-su".)

No clue about the third.

Brilliant!

And great riddles, Spyder-san.

OK - what's the third one?

Nice work kamome.

I can't work out the last one. One question I have is the "English answer" part, does that mean that the answer is an English word, or a Japanese word in Romaji?

It means the answer is completely English.

And yes, the first 2 have been answered correctly - well done :)

Thanks, guys. I love these nazonazo. Funny how the third one, which requires an English answer, is the hardest. I have no clue.

Tommybar: the answer can't be as obviously risque as I think it is. Because my mind went right in the gutter when I read your question.

OK. I'll give some clues for the third one.

The Answer is English, BUT to get the answer, you need to use Japanese.

Hint #1: Think about how to say "x2" in Japanese, and then think what English word it sounds like.
