Dim, could you and Canman check my browser for me. I see to be receiving an errant message that the J-ladies dusted the Canadian ladies right of the ice in curling, 5-2. It is obviously a computer glitch

Dumb FG moment..
The Jacobellis incident is much worse than the error of commission Dan Jansen made when he slipped, worse than Japanese ski jumper Happy Harada costing his team a gold medal by practically falling off the ski jump runway or Sweden goaltender Tommy Salo punching a hundred-foot lob over his own head into the net against Belarus. This was gratuitous hot-dogging, the modern-day hare striking a victory pose as the tortoise crawls past to win the race.

She claims that she purposely fudged up because she wanted to please the crowd and wanted to have some fun. Of course, her pictures while on the medal podem shows the exact opposite. Does anyone have those great pictures of her balling? Hey, on the bright side, she has become very famous.

GBoothe. But I watched the whole match and the Japanese team especially the skip curled a hell of a game. You said it yourself, tehy could be a force to be dealt with in the future. The local newspaper here in Aomori, has a picture of them covering half the front page celebrating their win. Good for them.

The Swiss beat the Canadian men's hocky team in a shut out. This is turning out to be one strange Olympic tournament. Lots and lots of upsets and surprises. I just hope this was the typical Canadian let down game and they can now focus for the rest of the tournament.

Czechs, USA also lost yesterday. Italy also tied Germany who were supposed to be halfway decent this time.
Strange tournament indeed.

Olympics: Japan medal drought continues in Turin
TURIN, Italy, Feb. 19 KYODO
Japan's medal drought continued at the Turin Olympics on Saturday, moving the country dangerously close to having its worst Olympic showing in 30 years.
This is the Italian Alps but it feels more like the Sahara Desert for Japan, which with no podium finishes thus far is way off reaching its target of five medals entering the final week of the 17-day Games.
Japanese ski jumper Takanobu Okabe made two impressive leaps in blustery conditions but it was not enough to medal as he came eighth ...more...

I was feeling a little sorry for them.. But I've had the TV on all day, assuming they would at least replay Olympic history being made]first black athlete to claim an individual gold medal in the Winter Olympics[/URL].. But no.. Why would NHK do that? It's much more exciting to watch replays of the Japanese falling on their faces..

Wish I could see the other three-quarters of the Olympics.. Fuck OFF! Mr. NHK monger!! ;)

You're right NHK's coverage is pretty bad. IT seems they've lost the will to show anything worthy of watching. I'm not sure if they don't want to show lots of others getting medals or what, but they've paid for the rights so why not show some stuff. And what's with showing the Men's hockey game at 1:30am. What a stupid fucking time.

It's not that I don't mind watching sports I wouldn't normally watch; the relay cross-country race on right now isn't half bad.. But I don't want to miss the exciting sports so I can see women's curling.. Again.. and again..

Although, most of the J-women's team can toss my stones anytime..

What kills me

Postby canman » Sun Feb 19, 2006 9:31 pm

Is that a lot of people don't have BS. And NHK has had the majority of its coverage on BS 7. That would be like HBO, or some pay channel in the States showing the Olympics. And yes the curlers are a little cute,(don't you find the third for the Japanese team looks like that gravia idol who does the Promise cm's). But I agree show some live stuff. How about bobsled, or one of the many other intersting sports out there, like hockey, or hockey or just perhaps hockey!!!!

I've been watching a lot of the hockey games here. I've had a cold and a three day weekend so I've just been vegin' on the Olympics. Man, hockey really is a great sport. I wish more sports (like basketball) utilized the power play system instead of stopping the clock every time there's a penalty.

Is the NHL the final say in hockey? If there are so many quality players from Europe why isn't the World Cup of Hockey idea catching on?

The world's best hockey players may not compete again until the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver after it was revealed Friday that there are no current plans to hold a World Cup of Hockey in 2008.

Curling

Japan has defeated the British team. I am impressed with their play. I watched most of the match last night and as the Olympics progress so is their play. I thought there was a little bit of gamesmenship in the 5th end when Japan had last rock and was going for a big end. While they were deciding their last stone, all four British players were on the ice especially the skip and third. But it didn:t seem to bother the Japanese wkip who made a great shot.
AK hockey is the greatest isn:t it. It has the speed of basketball, and the physical play of the NFL, rolled up into one. I don't know about the World cup of hockey, I think the biggest problem is timing, much like the world cup of soccer. But it is a great tournament as well.

No, the biggest problem is that the puck is so small you can't see it on TV, so you can hardly tell what's going on.
FOX TV tried to remedy this problem by putting an electronic tag in the puck, and a grid of sensors under the ice, so a computer could always detect the exact position of the puck. Then they put an electronic glow effect around the puck on the wide shots. It was massively unpopular, and they gave up on it.

If you have ever watched a hockey game televised by the CBC(Canadian Broadcasting Company) you would say otherwise. THey have the best camera positions and some of the best cameramen for the job. Don't take my word for it Ask Dimwit, or FGL, I think they will attest to this as well.
And what about soccer, for gods sake the camera is miles from the pitch that you can't even see the players let alone the ball, and I think it has a pretty good tv following wouldn't you say?

Ice Hockey if correctly cameraed is pretty good and losses much less of the action than football. However both sports are far better live, which is why I am so envious of Rob getting tickets to Ice Hockey at Nagano. The only sport that television improves is baseball.

Hell yes. Spectator audiences can get killed in a hockey game. Didn't some girl get smacked in the face with a puck in an NHL game while ago and died?
