On the Tokyu Line between Chinatown and Shibuya, Tokyu Corporation chartered their own official Halloween Party Train this year.

Since Halloween is on a Friday this year I don't understand why all these early parties are being thrown. Shibuya was crawling with morons in costumes on Saturday. It's bad enough I have to put up with that shit for one night. A month of it is just too much.

The answer I got from one of the costume wearing sluts was, "Dressing up is too much fun for only one day!"

Just wait, the obviously Japanese in origin holiday week of Haroiin will be "a thing" in the future  (yet they missed the trick or treatin'? WTF)

That being said, I've got no problem with them all dressing more like sluts than usual...but I've heard more than a few bitch about all the guys hitting on them. "I can't beereeebu they think I'm THAT kind of girl just because I'm dressed like this!"

I know this is going to end up as a a cranky old fart rant, but ...

I really wish they'd bother to learn a little about Halloween (and Christmas, and St. Valentine's, and St. Patrick's, etc.) before simply appropriating it as "cosplay day." It would really make it a lot more interesting and fun for everyone. Halloween is older than Christmas ... and it actually sort of fits in with a lot of Japanese traditions in some ways.

BTW, that goes for the Yanks and Brits and everyone else too.

If you're over 12 years old and still dressing up for Halloween, you should be hanged (this doesn't apply to parents going to a party with their kids).

I think you will find that Christmas is older than Christmas, too. No joke. Traditions change over time, and get coopted by other cultures. Your fart, however old, traditional and cranky, does not stand a chance at holding back the tide.

You mean the pre-Christian pagan festivals that somehow got blended with the winter solstice, some Christian stuff, and Roman shindigs to create the precursor of our current Christmas ... yeah, that happens. That's what I mean. Even a brief dip into that history makes the whole thing a lot more interesting, doesn't it?

I was referring to our "modern" December 25 Christmas (which is still really old) ... you know, the one a lot of people seem to think is for bonking in a hotel somewhere, but it's so damn hard to get a reservation at that time of year. Halloween is older than that Christmas. Fascinating stuff, and a lot more meaningful than "hey, let's dress up as zombies and go get shitfaced!"

The Japanese should embrace the age old tradition of trampling people to death at pre-Christmas sales. Nothing says the birth of our Lord and Savior like Black Friday.

That works for everything from engrish to margaritas.

Worse, trust me. I ordered nachos at a place and they were topped with cheese and canned mixed vegetable (peas, corn, and carrots). :puke:
