Not sure what you mean. The typhoon will land up here sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening, at something like 965 hPa.

Radiation...
Normal here: 0.09
Winds from the north/tohoku: 0.15
These days up to 0.28

Threshold for the lowest 'zone' in Chernobyl is 0.3

Sooo... basically... dere's sumthang up in dee hairz...

I remember that you said something similar recently, and Taro didn't measure much of an increased value in Tokyo.

Could it be that some nuke plant closer to you is responsible?

Should probably get my counter out and make a measurement or two.

Just asking, but where can I buy a Geiger counter, and which counters are good?

I hope they have things tied down at the Fukushima nuke plant ... :???:

I trust supplies of hatch battening are still adequate?

The pertinent question is, are supplies of hatch battening sufficient to deflect the load of batter that's on the way?

Eeeek. The Lionrock has awaken!!!!!!!!!!!! Impossibly stupid name aside, that looks very scary. You kids secure sufficiently sufficient batches of hatches and hatch battening and stay safe out there.

Number 10 has left some mildly heavy rain overnight but seems to be zipping northwards largely out of range of the Kanto area, so downgraded to a regional news event ;). OTOH it is picking up speed and is likely to zip across the Tohoku area at 70km/h.

It went from gradually strengthening wind with no rain to biblical downpour in about the last 15 minutes.

Hammer have you been getting repeated alerts to evacuate? It has been going on all morning here. They have reported that they have enough evacuation places for all citizens! I am a bit skeptical, and hope that it doesn't come to that. The wind is really starting to pick up now. I just did one final walk around to make sure the hatches are battened, or the batches are hattened or whatever the hell I'm supposed to do.

No evacuation alerts or orders here (unless I'm missing something). There's no way we'd be able to hear the local announcements at the moment anyway. We're set up to receive email alerts from the yakuba, but it's just "be careful" thus far.

If it's a biblical downpour you should already have built a boat and filled it with a wide collection of gender-paired animals.

Yeah, I screwed that one up. My name isn't Noah so I just ignored the booming voice that sounded like it was coming from the sky above the house. Besides, I have no fucking idea what a "cubit" is.

There's still some typhoon activity happening north of us, but we already have nice clear skies.

That was pretty tame ... well, except for the biblical downpour. Surprisingly little wind.
Looks like it has decided to run up the coast without breaking land ... yet.

EDIT: Oops ... it just landed up in Iwate (around 6 PM).

Trying to understand why they didn't evacuate, call for help? Did the staff leave these poor souls on their own! I hope to heaven they didn't. Lots of wind damage here and the rivers are way over there banks.

those abandoned elders were at the status of moaning plants smelling like poo and pee, i guess.
almost no the bereaved families would cry over and even get angry with the deaths. furthermore, some of them even would feel relieved. this is life. and you should just accept it. its way too naive to blame it.

I can understand those types being the last to be evacuated in a sudden emergency....but with all the warnings, it's pretty inexcusable.

im just a cold dry realist.
its best for human to gracefully die in between 70 and 80 if you want to die at the state of being human. and after hitting 70 years old, regardless of how you die, its a natural death. you should not feel sad with it.

Typhoon Malakas. Not a lot of wind but plenty of rain following a fair amount in the last 24 hours or so. Flooding may be an issue.
