is tokyo bearable in June?

Postby kotatsuneko » Sat Apr 30, 2005 11:27 pm

thinking of popping over to stay with one of my aunts in law for a month or so, then heading up to sapporo [my, dai ni furosato] to see how the place has changed before going up to see the parents in law.

my concern is... the HEAT. in sapporo, i could happily walk and shoot for a good 8 hours or so in summertime quite comfortably, but have never done so in tokyo.

should i just stay "up north"? :?

Well, if you're going to be walking around Tokyo and shooting, you might find that the heat will come down on you pretty hard. :D
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Is it bearable? If you consider 35 degrees plus and 80% humidity bearable, then yes.

I was all worried about being in Japan in summer, but it turned out it wasn't that bad. Maybe because I live in Arkansas which has really hot summers) But I was in aichi ken, maybe in Tokyo all the concrete, people and vehicles add to the heat factor.

And I'll be back there in 4 weeks for a 3 month spell (june, july, august)

I'd say Tokyo in June would be more bearable than July or August]http://www.ivw.co.jp/video_tips/t.w.r.html[/url]

I can deal with heat. I've got AC at home and work, and it's only a 3-minute walk between the two.

What's getting to me is how early the sun comes up. I woke up at 4:30 yesterday morning and 5:15 today. And it's only May 1st! Man, I am so screwed....

Why can't the Japanese understand that daylight savings can be a useful thing? Or maybe just change their whole time zone to GMT +10? Hell, you'd think they'd do that one just so they can always be ahead of Korea. :)

What's the best way for doing so? I used a roll of black platic from Tokyo hands, but ligh creeps around the sides. I used to use velcro but the velcro stickers slip off the walls of my new appartment... (I want something easy to take on & off).

I am back in town from 26th May, i am really not looking forward to the heat and humidity.

I tend to look like a sweating moaning gorilla in Tokyo in the summer.

I had fun wandering around Guam and Micronesia at noon in July, so I figure it couldn't be that bad in Japan.
