Back Pain

Postby canman » Thu May 05, 2005 8:14 pm

Does anybody have any good remedies for really killer back pain. I'm pretty sure its something to do with the muscles, as when I get into a hot bath, the pain sudsides a lot. I don't know what the hell happened, I woke up feeling good, I sat down at my computer to check out FG, and whamo this pain over my left kidney that almost knocked me off my chair. Now I know some of you are thinking its not back or muscle its kidney, but I'm pretty sure is musculature in nature. But I've never experienced anything like this before. Yesterday I took the family to play park golf, but comeon its not like I was driving the ball 300 yards. I plan on heading to the hospital tomorrow, thank god Golden week is over, but if you any advice for what I'm sure will be a terrible nights sleep, I would love to hear from you.

Yoga always helped my back pains. Some gentle stretching and flexibility exercises will do you good. Avoid golf, it puts a terrible strain on your back.

Get a good physical therapist. I had back pain for 3 years and couldn't even speed walk on a treadwill without being fucked for 3 days. A phycisal therapist gave me some basic pilates and stretching exercises that got me back to where I could do martial arts training 5 times a week again. My back still acts up sometimes but I know how to manage it now. Take care of it as soon as possible. The longer you wait the longer it takes to get better.

Get rid of your mattress. Get a new mattress that is closer to a piece of plywood. I used to have some bad back pain, now I am better than ever. Takes about a month to get used to it

Thanks for the advice

Postby canman » Fri May 06, 2005 2:59 pm

I couldn't sleep last night so this morning off I went to the Orthopedic Clinic. It seems I have cracked two ribs. But the doctor couldn't offer me much help. He gave me some "shippu" told me to keep the ribs wrapped tightly, take some pain medication and come back and see him in a week. Mind you I guess with cracked ribs there is not a lot they can do anyway.

You're right.. For injuries like that, it's only time that heals.. Lot's of valium and wine, if you have time.. ;)

Throw me a frickin' bone...

Postby Mike Oxlong » Fri May 06, 2005 3:19 pm

Some locals I know have successfully been treated for headaches, neck trouble, and back pain by the honetsugi guy. I guess it's not only bone-setting they practice.

You gotta do those stretches, especially if you haven't played in a while. As Charles was saying, golf is killer on the skeleton, so you have to be careful.

how do you crack a few ribs and not know how you did it? Wow! Well anyway back pain is caused from an inflamed source (a disc or a muscle) which swells and presses into the nerves of the spine, that's why the pain is so intense.

The first priority is to reduce the swelling with aspirin, wet-heat (a bath) and ice packs. When I feel a strain coming on I lay on the floor in the yoga "corpse" position and it usually doesn't go into spasm'. However yesterday I had a bad one and nothing helped. Last nite I took some steriods (prednisone) and today I'm feeling better.

Liquid Morphine should do it. 2 drops under the tongue. Can't you get that shit there?
