Aomori City or prefecture?

Are you coming to see Nebuta? If so, and trust me it is well worth coming for, over a million people come to see it. Also it is very possible for all the hotels to book in one day, as everyone is sitting waiting by their phone on the six month waiting day, and then they just keep calling until they get through and get their reservation. Also a lot of the rooms are booked by the big travel companies, then they put together a kind of Tohoku festival tour. Nebuta, and Sendai's Tanabata, and maybe Morioka's Salsa festival.
I recommend you stay outside of Aomori city. For example you can get a hotel here in Hachinohe, and then its only an hours train ride. Or Hirosaki, on the other side.

I went to Nebuta 3 years ago and thought it was quite overrated. But, you can camp near the harbor, for free if you have a tent, which ends up being about a 15-20 min walk from where the funeral procession takes place. Might have been more or less but cuz the shroomz had us

Aomori city is really beautiful and there are some nice places to drink beer there too. Recommend the boardwalk area near the ocean. Had a blast there partying with all the Japanese biker guys - they had the happa and shroomz!

I enjoyed the Kantou matsuri in Akita Shi better. All the guys balancing the 50 kilogram Christmas trees with chouchin on em was really wicked.
Id recommend this one instead of Nebuta but thats just my 2yen worth. Guess its good to go once just to say youve been.
