I don't read all of those sites in their entirety. I scan headlines and read what interests me. I no longer get the newspaper so the web is my main source of news.

I should add http://www.nytimes.com/ to my "read occasionally" list as I do check it out once in awhile. Also http://www.cbc.ca and http://www.bbc.co.uk. Why so many news sources? I like to get various angles if I am interested in a specific story.

Sadly, these sites seem to get daily visits according to the my history log. I don't want to think about what gets a weekly look.

Is it just me

Postby canman » Thu May 12, 2005 3:36 pm

Or do any of you find Cnn is quite slow to load these days. I don't have the same problem with any other sites. Sometimes it even times out. Or does my computer have a problem with CNN?

I was having bad problems with cnn as well as few other sites until I figured out that my auto mtu setting on my router was screwing it up. I found that 1542 was the best size. cnn is still slower than most sites but it loads up well, loads faster.

Anyone else play around with these settings?

Yeah, it started about 3 weeks ago.. I thought it was just a CNN/Safari thing.. Don't really care much; I think it's lost it's edge..

Yeah, I also have problems with CNN, but only within Firefox. It seems to open okay in IE. At home I can use both though. Weird.

I also don't use CNN much anymore...I find Google News gives me a better spread of news and makes it easier to read multiple angles.

Agreed, they often rip off each other (if I remember correctly, the guy who started one of them sold out/left and then started the other one)...but I think writing is a bit more crisp on Engadget and they allow comments, which is helpful when they occasionally flub a piece or have a pretty obscure joke reference.
