Yep, it's just like crossing the street in the US, only that cars will not stop for you, so you learn how make better judgements. This is a fun skill to have, seeing as it seems all Japanese lack it. You can either cross the street when you see all cars are turning, or you can stand there like a fool for another minute. sigh
