How much is an English Teacher making these days??

Postby Mini_B » Sat May 21, 2005 5:31 am

How much does a fulltime sensei go for these days?

We're looking to hire some teachers at the school that I manage and just wondering what we should offer for the employees. We used to offer accomodation in exchange for teaching...but times are changing and we decided that paying qualified gaijins was the way to go.

All you did was pay rent for full time teachers?

Anyway, 20 lessons a week, 25 man, not too much split shift bullshit or mandatory office hours.

I'd say you get what you pay for. Salaries that are low are going to command the bottom of the barrel. Higher salaries you can expect more from your employees.

Salary: first three months at 240,000 Yen/month, and thereafter the salary will increase to 285,0000 Yen/mo. National income tax deduction is approximately 4%.
The school has single-occupancy studio apartments available for the teachers. Housing, insurance and other deductions are shown to candidates who send us the necessary application documents.

Terms of Contract: Wage based on weeks/hours worked. Company travel paid, accommodations provided but rent is not paid.
Work Description: English teacher and English resource person in conversations schools and corporate locations.
Office work and other duties may be requested along with other related items within your professional capability.
Working Hours: Minimum 32 Hr. work week (teaching is about 25 hrs) up to 5 days. Overtime is possible, but up to the individual and company situation.
Base Wage: 250,000 to 270,000 yen per month based on a 128 hr period and depending on ability and experience. 4 weeks holidays 3 weeks paid per year (1 week in May, 1 in August and 2 at Christmas/New Years)
Accommodation: Sponsored single person apartment provided with all the basic necessities. Rent is 44,000/month.
Increases: Performance related, reviewed in 6-month intervals

So it would seem some type of accommodation, as well as renumeration in the amount of 25man-30man.

If you gave some more info about what the working conditions you have are, it would be easier to give you some sort of idea on what you should expect to pay.

How many days a week? How many lessons? How much prep time? What time do they start and finsih? How much vacation? Business trips?
