After Hurricane Katrina. (photos of Miami after the storm)

It has been 13 years plus one day since the last hurricane hit South Florida. As the Miami Herald put it, "OUR LUCK RUNS OUT". Hurricane Katrina was expected to turn north, but made a surprise sharp turn south to devastate all of Miami-Dade. Few were ready for this.

I am thankfully not hurt, though my home was damaged. I have been without power for two days. I spent some time at the local newspaper to learn what was going on. I spent most of the day traveling Miami with my camera. Here are some of the photos so you can get an idea of what things are like. I am quite thankful that my damage was minimal and I have power and water again. I cannot start to tell you how good it feels to take a shower after all this.




Flooding is everywhere as expected from a storm that produced so much rain. Many cars had to be abandoned.

It is quite hot here. Normal temp is about 35c each day. I am very thankful to have power. Water was another thing I did not have. I live on a farm and as such have well water. The water pump requires power and without power I had no water for two days. I went with very little in the way of food and less than needed water for a small time. All is back to normal at my home, though it's still hard to find food. The food supply should be much better by tomorrow. Not many people were ready for this. We did not expect the hurricane to turn south.

Dont worry about food. Its pretty easy to go for a week with out food.

We used to have a well about 20 years ago, and we had a back up generator just in case the power ever went down. And it did several times.

Those images are amazing. But when you live in a coastal area, especially Miami, you aught to expect hurricanes. It's part of life there.

I've been through some big storms (hurricanes/blizzards) in different parts of the US country and I've seen similar things after those storms passed. While you're busy cleaning up/shoveling out, after a few hours of it, you're bored and also curious about storm's impact beyond your own area. So you go out and see what's happening. If something is open, you go buy something in no small part just because you can.

But that said, some folks love them donuts

Perhaps because a majority of the population is urban poor black people. I can understand food and water being looted, but what the hell you gonna do with a big screen TV and no house or electricity to use it? Now that's what's weird.

You've been listening to the MSM clowns. There is between 60 and 75 percent of the National guard available in all effected states. That was announced on the news yesterday, after most of the MSM talk shows claimed there was a shortage of guard available. One state, Louisiana, just mobilized 5,000 guardsmen.
