Pryor died shortly before 8 a.m. of a heart attack after being taken to a hospital from his home in the San Fernando Valley, said his business manager, Karen Finch. He had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system.

Comedians are a group with a few things in common. For one, we believe that somewhere right now, someone less funnier than us are making more money. For another, we think everyone who made it stole their acts from us. But we all truely love and respect 3 comics. Kinda the "Unholy 3" if you will: Lenny Bruce, Richard Prior and George Carlin.
While my top 3 all time doesn't include Lenny, Prior is always on the list. (My top 3 all-time are Prior, Steve Martin and Rodney Dangerfield.)

R.I.P. I've been listening to a lot of Pryor's old stand-up albums via Last.FM during the last few months. I can't say they all make me laugh out-loud (routines based on racial stereotypes have been rehashed ad nauseum through the 90's, long since they were considered 'edgy'), but his self-deprecating style (especially when riffing on his drug and health problems) is still refreshing.
There is nothing more noble than impassioned nonsense.
