Hangovers in Japan, worse than back home?

Postby Laced » Mon Jan 09, 2006 2:34 am

Any of you got this problem? I try all the sensible things, like sticking to one drink, drinking water, eating carbohydrates, drinking milk, what ahve you, and no matter what, these hangovers fucking STING, or if I've been on beer I get a bit depressed.

Back in London I drank pretty randomly and my hangovers would jsut make me lethergic.

Stay away from the cheap sake, and try to get enough to eat- it's easy to be half-starved in Japan.

Hangovers only seem to hit when you wake up. Since you can drink around the clock in Japan, I recommend finding another bar rather than sleeping as a means of avoiding one.

Dr. Mulboyne scores again. A much better prescription than "than take one before bedtime and call me in the morning!"

And for god's sake, stay off the happoshu! That low-malt, beer-like beverage is the devil's work!! The corn syrup and/or corn starch they use as a malt substitute is an impurity IMO. A recipe for plenty of congeners, the evil crap that makes yer head pound

yeah the hangovers over here are much worse - i think its because the beer isn't as good. The worst ones always come off the cheap stuff like happposhu, chu-his, shochu and sake you would use to clean your paint brushes with.

However, if you are sensible with your drink (yeah whatever) and neck a few pints of water before you go to bed everything is ok the next day. If not, i recommend 2 litres of aquarius alongside a round of bacon and egg sandwiches!
will the last one out please turn the light off.....

You just have to do what my college roommate did after a hard drinking session.
Make yourself throw up (preferrably in a restroom and not the station) then drink as much water as you can hold...

Believe it or not drinking coffee also works. The wife mentioned it numerous and I tried it once after I stumbled home at 3AM and had to be at work at 8. The cafein won't keep you awake and you will definately feel better in the morning.

You mean there are places you cant drink around the clock..............shudders

Stick to top shelf spirits - stay far far away from japanese beer like substances, chu-hi, cheap sake and sho-chu.Before you go to sleep drink as much water as you can and eat a toasted cheese sandwhich(or something equally as filling and fatty)

He's right. I've drunk myself sober with Mulboyne before.

Also, if you like beer, stay away from nama beer from the izakayas and tachinomiyas. That stuff tends to be the worst of the worst. I swear Suntory and Asahi put poison in their brews.

I cannot tell if this is an accurate post or not. I've never seen either one of them sober
