Japanese Gardens

Postby emperor » Sun Jan 15, 2006 12:26 pm

i gotta write a quick 1000 ji on japanese gardens:
Any ideas on elements to focus on?
There seems to be 3 main types, obviously all linked to zen buddhism and originated from around 700-800ad.
I was thinking I might try to find out how one can differenciate between Chinese and Japanese styles?
...suggestions for a more interesting angle?

Maybe discuss the two schools of urasenke and omotesenke? Who is the audience you're writing for?

Edit - A Japanese friend (gardener) told me that these two schools also cover the design of zen gardens, but after doing a quick search on the web all I can find is info relating to the tea ceremony, so maybe my suggestion is crap.

Yeah it seems to be the reputation thing, but I don't know how, or if, it works. Bigger must mean I have a bigger reputation for being an assh*le :p
